Lyman #2 Tang Sight Question

Post by BruceB »

Does anybody know if a Lyman #2 marked for the 1886 Winchester can be used instead of the one for the 94 Winchester?

Bruce, I don't think so, IIRC, the base holes are different spacing.

Tang mounting holes are the same for all Winchesters but the stem is considerably higher and more forwarded situated.....I have to go look and compare.

The 94 in question isn't already drilled for tang sights so spacing isn't an issue. I'm concerned that once mounted, the aperture would be too high or too low to use. It seems Lyman #2's for the 94 aren't available right now. I ordered one from Optics Planet in March because their "availability" said 7-15 day shipping. After a week I received an email that said it would be The middle of April and finally an e mail that said middle of September. So I cancelled the order and a friend has found a #2 for the 1886 .I don't want to start drilling holes and find it won't work,so the question above.

Here ya go Bruce.......the 86 sight is set farther up the base and the stem is higher so that means your going to need a higher front sight. How high I don't know as tha depends on the load your using and only you can determine what your going to need.

But, it will work...holes are the same and there's plenty enough clearance for the backward travel of the bolt. ----006
