Winchester 94ae 356

Post by Chester38 »

Hello all, I am a newbie here. I purchased a Winchester 94ae in 356 and it had a side mounted scope mount. I would like to find information on the original sights. Can anyone help?

Thanks

I actually remember when these first came out back in the early - mid 80's. Seems to me they had a Buckhorn rear sight.

I had one in 307 and I just looked at the 1984 Winchester catalog which shows the rear sight is a folding type like Ruger uses on the 10-22. The front sight is taller than the 30-30 rifle and does not use the hood.

Like Elmo said the 307 and 356 AE had the fold down rear sight. Try MIdwest Gun works.

Yup...
Midwest fell heir to most of the "syrplus" Winchester and Browning parts of that Era..

Welcome to the fire.

Strange that an Angle Eject would have a side mount. The AE is drilled and tapped for a top mounted scope from the factory.

true, maybe it was the model before the AE?

I have four AEs in 356 and four AEs in 307. I think they all have folding rear sights. some of my favorite rifles.

I thought only the 375s came top eject.
Kind regards,

Most 375’s are top ejects but there was a small number of 375 AE’s made as well. The one I have has no additional safeties and the Monte Carlo buttstock, which I believe was dropped after a year into AE production. I think my 375 AE also has a folding rear sight, most likely made by Lyman or Marbles.

The early production AE’s had different front scope mount holes drilled. This might explain why the OP’s rifle was fitted with a side mount.
