That is a very good observation.

We have access to more information at our fingertips now than mankind has ever had, but it appears that we are worse off for it.

Anyone else remember Bulletin Boards. When just connecting to another computer really was “going on line”. And it was almost as much fun installing the hardware then getting the software to work with it was as much fun as actually communicating with someone via a modem.

The internet ruined a great challenge. You had to work for it.

I don't bitch about it because I have met some truly good men on forums and have been able to interact with them on line and in person in ways that I never could before.

But I also know that I wasted so much time on Facebook and Twitter. Time that I will never get back and time that truly served no legitimate purpose.

This pandemic may have had the effect of keeping a lot of people from the good interaction that we really need.

I often think that if the Unibomber had a good friend to have coffee with every morning, he would likely have had someone to tell him that what he was thinking wasn't right and he may have reconsidered and employed his energies to something more productive.

As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. We need each other, like it or not, to grow and get better.

The card catolog in the Library was an excellent resource. We had a Head Librarian who loved helping kids. He was a bit unusual in some ways, but he would stop whatever he was doing to help. Sometimes the odd ducks are the best for the odd jobs.

Having been married to a woman who was a Librarian for 41 years I can attest that most of the males who end up in libraries are unusual. Nice folks but they seem to live in a somewhat unreal world.

But today's libraries are not what they once were. As a kid you could go there alone and have no fear of anything. Today they are the happy hunting ground of pedophiles.

Our Head Librarian was homosexual. He hated pedophiles. Back then it was not well understood that homosexual did not mean pedophile. From what I have learned, most pedophiles are straight. WEIRD!!! but straight. Our Head Librarian, Del, would help you find books, call other libraries for an inter-library loan so that you could read a book they didn't have, and even suggest new books to you. He got me interested in Historical Fiction by suggesting The Eagle Has Landed for me to read in about 7th grade. As far as I know, he never touched a kid inappropriately.
Our Children's Librarian was a gun nut. Back then, the Memorial Library in Liberal, KS was as safe of a place for a kid as there could be.

I didn’t mean to imply librarians were pedophiles. It’s just that pedophiles frequent libraries. Over the years a number were busted at her library. The most outrageous was one who turned out to teach at a private school. This after being fire ( but not prosecuted) from a public school in another part of the state. Add to that, he was also a foster parent with L A County DPS.

And you guessed in, no one got fired.

You were clear. I was just explaining how our Librarian was a bit odd. Safe for children. Just odd. Again, Pedophiles are usually straight.

wound up caught, prosecuted, and jailed. i hope he's still in there. lots of jail bait available there ...

I'm completely un christian when it comes to those that hurt kids. Once and done. Execution swift and painfully is the only cure. Televise it and it might keep some from acting.

are you asking me? Christ was surrounded by sex predators. the roman empire was famous for it. still is. Christ didn't beat them. He died for them. And for me and you. and He is the only judge of us.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that hears my word, and believes on him that sent me, has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.[mef] John 5:24

The Good News is really Great news.

i get the wrath about man's inhumanity to man and i detest it and quarrel about it, but His response is always the same, He died to save sinners, and i am among them.

and no, i do not absolve the abusers, they need to be stopped. the problem is a spiritual one. not a religious one. a spiritual one. "that which is born of flesh is flesh, and that which is born of Spirit is spirit."

every morning His Grace is renewed to us

Remember his action toward the priests who were selling forgiveness in the temple? He beat them and threw them out.
Remember his statement about those who harm childern? He said it would be better if they had never been born. Considering that he was the word, that is chilling. He knew their final destination.

As an old cowpoke, I have no use for homosexuals, though I have known a number of them. I positively hate pedophiles.

However, I know that Christ died for them just as he died for me.

Scott, my understanding is that we are all tempted to do wrong. Where the issue comes up is when we act on that temptation. I don't really care what a person finds attractive. I do care when it goes to an action. I am not the final authority, but taking action on an attraction to those who cannot protect themselves is what makes me want to harm those who take such action.
Two mentally competent adults may cause me to feel disgust, but as adults they have free choice. An adult and a child is cause for action on the adult. If at all possible, legal action is what I consider the best way to go in our society.

this is true. Christ is God. and He is the Judge. believers are delivered from the wrath of the Lamb, but we are not agents of His wrath. we are assigned to be agents of His Grace. By sharing His Gospel . . .

kind of complicated when there are death squads enforcing anti-christ "legislation"

Catching someone in the act and stopping them is different from taking on the role of the punishment after the fact.

We used to call catching someone in the act "bought and paid for" back when I carried a badge. Probably not politically correct to say something like that these days.

Yep, and I earned every one. I wasn't a "bad" kid, just headstrong and inquisitive. Read stubborn and willing to try darned near anything. Sometimes no punishment was necessary. But the wounds have healed and left only minor scaring.

Spanking kids is probably good in many cases, but it should not go to the point that it breaks bones or be done to one child because the Mother doesn't want to spank the younger one who actually did whatever it was.
