PillHer and I were out to the reaissance faire last weekend. Someone had one of those old Aladdin kerosene lamps with a mantle that was being used for light in one of the shops. I pointed it out to PillHer. She thought it was interesting.

Well, Pitchy, you made me look. Those mantles are available down here for a mere $121.990. That's the bad news. The good news is the price is in Colombian pesos, which at today's exchange rate would put them at $32.40 US - with free shipping (here in Coffee Country). That's a bit salty, to say the least. About the first time some moth flew down the chimney and beat the mantle to death I'd be tempted to toss the whole shebang out the window. It's great to see they're still available, but they ain't for poor folk, that's for sure. It pretty much explains another item that came up in my search - a lovely glass Aladdin Lamp with intact chimney, but with an electric cord running into the fill hole and what looked like a 10 watt incandescent bulb where the mantle should be.

Yep and why one sees a lot of them on Ebay with cords coming out of them, i`ve been trying to figure out how to make one from a couple Coleman mantles.

Pitchy,

Again, another nice looking hot blast lantern.

That made me go look at mine. Two are Dietz - one a HY-LO; the second is what looks like a Hy-LO but is stamped King other side is stamped 'Fire Dept' (handles are different). The third has a manufactures name of Star, it is a reflector. The fourth one is a brand new Dietz that I bought on Amazon about 4 years ago.

Enjoy them.

Pitchy, Coleman used to have clip on mantles. Could those and some steel wire to hold them up in the right position do the trick? There are other brands and styles of lantern other than Coleman. If you can figure out how to adapt a lantern mantle to that Aladdin lamp, it could be a way for you to start up a small home based business.

That is, if you would want to do it.

black river smith sounds like you have a nice collection feel free to post some pictures, i`m digging those reflectors. 8)
Piller i`ll check into different mantles, the thing is the bottom has to be open and i`m thinking they will come unraveled so have to figure that out. :)

I rigged up a fixture to hang a Coleman mantle on but it didn`t work just barely glowed so they must make them from something else.
Oh well we tried. :)

Reminds me of the story my mom used to tell of someone she knew who put a red light over the door to discourage insects from congregating there during the summer evenings. His wife told him, "You should have bought the yellow one!'", which he scoffed at. He was SURE it was the red bulb that was called for. Until one evening there was a knock on the door about the time his wife was getting ready for bed. She went to the door in her robe, slippers and curlers and there was a confused looking guy standing there. He looked at her and then at the light and said "That light doesn't mean what I thought it meant, does it?" It got swapped out for a yellow one the very next day.

OK. next stop .... BTW i read a review of the dietz 2000 camper lantern. the lady said it will not boil water, plus the fit of the lantern and the aluminum pots is poor. the kelly kettle is the best no-grid water boiler i've found. that and putting the coffee pot in the coals...

garrett wade sells long reach copper funnels

https://garrettwade.com/product/copper-funnel-large

I have one, but it took 5 months to get it, with me prodding them once a month, about.

the whole company is a really big pain to deal with, but the funnel is real nice. maybe it just takes that long to 3D-Print copper ??

Soaked the wick and lit her up in the dark, kinda hard to see very good in the pictures but it shines pretty good as much as can be expected with a yellow flame.
