In the current Legislative session in Texas, I am looking for more relaxed gun control. We are still undoing the carpet bagger laws!!!!!!

Concealed or open carry of handguns for the main examples.

After the Civil war, civilian carry of handguns was prohibited. Up until the 1990s, carrying a handgun was a felony in Texas. There were a few "defenses", that were all subjective and mainly determined by case law, which the average citizen doesn't follow. A lot of people will chime in about how they carried handguns everywhere, blah blah blah. But it was essentially illegal and you had to prove your defense. Most often, you met with a sympathetic LEO, like your local sheriff, constable or game warden. In larger cities like Austin, Dallas, Houston, etc you were more likely to get in a jam.

Since 1990 the "carpet bagger" laws against carrying of handguns have been relaxed. We had a CHL. Now a LTC (license to carry, open or concealed) . People can have handguns at their place of business or to and from without a permit.

In short, the conquering Union put all sorts of restrictions/punishments in place over the defeated Confederates. My grandparents were still bitter over it

The period following the Civil War was hard on Texas. One of the things we lost was the ability to be armed. An ordinary individual could not publicly carry a pistol in Texas unless he was a police officer or a licensed security guard on duty.

With the election of Governor (later President) Bush, we obtained the "right" to apply for a permit to carry a pistol. But that "right" was rather restricted.

Over the subsequent years we have expanded to the point that you can carry a pistol in your car without a permit. We got laws to protect against overly restrictive signage that illegally prohibited carrying guns in certain places. We can and do carry guns into the State Capitol.

Last session, the Legislature removed the restrictions on carrying knives, clubs and other weapons.

I want to get to the point where there are no restrictions or permit requirements for law abiding Texans to carry guns where they wish.

When I first got stationed at Ft Lewis Wa, the state had some of the best laws in the nation. Concealed just for the asking, and open carry without any permission.
Well, that's certainly changing, and not for the better. Last year the idiots passed an initiative making all semi-auto long guns "assault guns"..... I expect to be given a hard time about my 10-22 takedown, and two 25 round mags.... It also has that Scary Looking Flash Suppressor that makes it 10X more deadly

As I found out last year around this time, Texas accepts most if not all other states licenses to carry, even California. Spent a week in Dallas for work. Except at the job site I was able to carry. Nice folks in Texas.

I honestly don't know for sure. You would think so.

Maybe some of the other 12 will let us know.

In Wyoming, we've been enjoying the "good old days" for the last couple decades.
As more and more monies (relatively) "escapees" from Kalipornica and other socialist strongholds converge on our peaceful, rural landscape, we're seeing them bully/cojole/but their way into positions of political power, even to the State level. There have always been a very few strident "liberal" voices in our legislature, but they didn't make much headway, until very recently.
After a long fught, we ultimately won "permitless" open and concealed carry. It has worked well for us, but has come under affack, again, from certain factions, which "don't like" the idea that Anyone else might be carrying a gun, or which the hoplophoves were unaware. I expect the attacks to continue, and to proliferate, fueled by "refugees" from CA, WA, OR, CO, as well as from the mid-west and the eastern seaboard..
There are other examples of deteriorating "quality of life deterioration that may best be left for another spot..
Regards

Buck

I always thought of Wyoming as a place where the best of humans and some very tough and dangerous wildlife came from. Too bad the (insert your favorite description here) anti freedom Libs are trying to move in and take over.
