I had heard most of this before. It needs to be said often so that everyone hears it.

Kind of like electric cars (more environmental damage to make them, and most are charged up via fossil-fuel-generated electricity, so burning that fuel directly in the car would actually be more efficient and use less fossil-fuel), and those awful 'compact fluorescent' bulbs (also require far more environmentally-damaging materials to manufacture, and they tend to catch fire and/or explode far more often than regular filament bulbs) - I think the bulbs were pushed by the government due to lobbying and that was because the compact fluorescent bulb makers saw LED bulbs on the horizon and knew they'd only have a short window to recoup their manufacturing investments.
Then the LED ones at least last a long time, but with each one having it's own transformer, they aren't exactly environmentally friendly. Once houses have built-in 3 volt wiring for lighting and maybe 6-12 volt for electronics, we won't have to have a transformer in everything individually, but that's not happening soon.
