The IT guy we use is great, but I’m not sure he really understands what’s going on politically these days. He didn’t seem to think a VPN was particularly helpful, although his perspective is dealing with medical practices and HIPAA security and all that.
Do any of you guys who are really knowledgeable about Internet stuff think that a VPN is actually something useful, or a waste of time, or what...?
And I don’t really have my iPhone and work Internet and home Internet all set up as one integrated package, so how does that kind of thing affect use of a VPN?
‘Express VPN’ and others...???

Re: ‘Express VPN’ and others...???
VPN is an absolute necessity imo. I use PIA and have for years. We use it on our phones and tablets, on wifi and on ethernet. There are very many reasons, but end to end secure encryption is the main one. Second reason is to alter your location. I can log in to the internet from Israel or canada or california even ( ) .
PIA allows 10 devices at once, so friends and family get their own tunnel when they are here. Without end to end encryption anyone can read your wifi traffic, it's in plain language, your passwords are in plain language. HTTPS, such as a bank login, are encrypted, the vpn incrypts that. I don't trust https the way I trust vpn. subject to the first confirmed failure of course.
It is so secure that I can and do borrow a connection or use one at mcdonalds to do online purchasing with my credit cards when necessary. It's that good. It defeats "man-in-the-middle" attacks because it keeps starbuckians from reading your traffic. they can see the feed, but it's all encrypted. so far, so good.

Re: ‘Express VPN’ and others...???
as a follow up on the VPN topic, this photo demonstrates the anonimizing effect of the VPN. I am currently logged in through a PIA VPN server in silicon valley, which dutifully informs sportsman's warehouse of my location so they can inform me of their locations and restrictions...
so not only is my info securely scrambled before it reaches my router, but my location is also.
it's fun to log into an Estonian router and try to log into facebook

My login is from Romania via a couple other places .. It changes every time I go to another site.
A VPN is essential.
