It arrived !

Post by 6pt-sika »

My new to me circa 1899 Parker DH 12 gauge 32” F&F on a 2 frame without safety arrived today a day early . Left the Seattle are last Tuesday evening and arrived today before lunch . Looked none the worse from the trip . Got the gun out the box , put it together , threw it up with my eyes closed , opened my eyes and everything was lined up correctly. So then I took it apart put the action in the vice removed the trigger guard screw pivoted it and sure enough the serial number was stamped in the wood . After that I did the paperwork and emailed the seller to tell them I was satisfied . I’ll shoot it Tuesday at trap and possibly 5-stand . And if I can hit with it I’ll take it to the Pheasent shoot Saturday .

When you look at guns like this and see the craftsmanship and attention to detail, all made with old technology along with surviving well over a hundred years it makes you wonder about the junk being produced today and how people accept it.

They accept it because they’re young and never saw things from when real AMERICAN craftsmanship was alive and well ! I got an invite to a Pheasent/mallard shoot not to far from you this Saturday at a club in Baltimore County MD called “First Mine Run Shooting Club” . If I wasn’t already obligated to a Pheasent deal about thirty miles from me this Saturday I think I’d make the trip .

I can remmember a time I thought I’d never posses a Grade 3 Parker at present I have six hammerless and one hammer all Grade 3 . Grade 3 is the same thing as a D grade . Now the low point is three are hammerless 12’s and the rest are 10’s . Wouldn’t mind a nice DHE 16 and 20 .

Truly a beautiful old school shotgun! My gun shop has 3 or 4 Parker's in stock that I was looking at. Nowhere near the quality of your new purchase! I wanted one for many year's. Hopefully one day I run into one for the right price! Congratulations on a finely crafted shotgun!

This thing I was very apprehensive of as it had been on GB for a few weeks . And to be honest I wasn’t sure what to expect when it arrived . But so far I’ve not seen anything negative . Now the big question is how well it breaks targets with this nut (me) attached to the stock .

Every one of the Parkers are in 12 gauge. If memory serves me correctly two were sawed of to coach style length barrels. I don't think any had barrels that long.

Well thank you just the same . I’d like to get a V G or D grade 20 that’s 30 or 32 inch full and full . Use it for sporting clays and Pheasent tower shoots .

I just patterned both barrels of this thing twice at 45 of my steps that oughtta be between 40 and 43 yards . Anyway looks pretty darn good with 1 1/8 ounces of #6’s . If I can keep my head screwed on right Saturday the pheasents might have a tough road . To be honest this thing would make a nice turkey stomper if I didn’t already have another DH 12 gauge 3 frame 28 inch that’s F and XF .

Gun did very well at 5-stand ! I however could’ve done better . Gun is choked tight for sure . There was no such thing today as a to far bird but there were a few that were to close , as with the tight choke it left less than no room for errors . On the trap field I shot one round quick as no one else wanted to shoot , think I went 21 straight and dropped two of the last four . I chalk that up to being tired from shooting fast . Didn’t try it at skeet shot my little 28 . So we learned today the dimensions on the gun seem to work for me , we learned the gun is tight , we learned it patterns factory 1 1/8 #6 field loads well both barrels at 42ish yards . We also noticed note being able to flick the safety off lols ! But we came to the conclusion this just may work very well for the purposes I purchased it for !

Well the Southern Side by Side in April is supposedly still on but I have my doubts . Koneski has the Northern SxS scheduled for the end of July and this was the only SxS shoot that was done in 2020 I believe . So if I’m still not able to go to the Philippines in July August I think I’ll go to Koneski’s and take maybe six guns 8 hammer , 10 hammer and hammerless , 12 hammerless , 16 hammer and hammerless all Parker of course . Koneski by the way has a Sporting course not to far from Clark’s Summit in PA .

If Prospect Hall sends me an invite to their January pheasent partridge pigeon deal I wanna pattern a couple 1 1/4 loads at forty yards . The shots are a bit steeper there . Prospect Hall shut down almost two weeks ago , the caretaker of the place caught the crud . I assume not to long after I was there on 12/19/20 . I assume they’ll have a shoot this month but I’ve not recieved a card yet .

Took the Parker DH 12 gauge 32” to Christmas Hill today for a Pheasent shoot . I was shooting some 80’s vintage WIN field loads holding 1 1/8 ounce of #6’s . Someone brought a flat of them in to sell so I got them for about $7 a box . Anyway that gun with those shells made me look semi decent . I think with the first eight shots I killed 8 pheasents . By my calculations I think I got 17 or 18 birds with 37 shots not perfect by a long shot , but I’m good with it . This long barreled tight choked gun works for me or atleast it did today .

Well got an invite this morning to do a Pheasent shoot at Prospect Hall in WVA this Saturday . My plan is to take the same Parker I used this past Saturday and my 8 gauge with twenty or so shells . I’m going to borrow a friends shooting cart to push these things around on with shells water etc . If I can get a couple with the 8 I’m satisfied and will do the rest with my 12 .

Never heard of using a punt gun for pheasants
Yesterday I had 18 birds that had to get stocked. Parker found em all! Sadly the guys don't shoot so good...

That 8 is not what I’d call a punt gun . Any punt gun I’ve ever seen was a heck of a lot longer with a much greater bore diameter easily double that of an 8 .
