Another peachy Christmas

Post by Pitchy »

We kept our tradition of going to the Mill for Christmas and eating peaches though it was a chilly -5 F.
This year we took the camping box and had stew also, the old Coleman stove even lit up. :)
Hope everyone has a Merry merry Christmas and a great New Year.

Great pic's Pitchy , Thank You for sharing ! Not as cold here currently 16* , but the Lake Erie snow machine got cranked up and We got 20" since Christmas Eve. best part about being retired is not having to go out at 4:30am. :D . The stew looked pretty warm and the peaches cold. Good to see that Ya took the '76 along in case the hostiles tried a sneak attack. Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas, to you Pitchy. It was only 13degrees when I got up, here in the center part of the country. Glad to see you're out and about. Like the looks of the 1876 sit'n off to the side.
Stay warm up there. Enjoy the ending of this year.

Thanks gents, 6pt i bought the mill some 30 or so years ago for three hundred bucks but it was just a pile of steel had to rebuild it with wood.
Was a big job but worth it in the end. :)

Years ago I was in on rebuilding the husk frame’s for a Farqhuar mill and a Frick mill , was a lot more difficult than you expected if it was ones first time . Frick made a small mill they called a “pony mill” always wanted one of them partially because small but also because the husk frame was cast iron .

The husk frame is cast on this mill, i have a Bell saw carriage sitting in the weeds but no track though a person can make one easy enough.
Been kicking around the idea of having a band saw for years but can`t seem to commit, would of been nice when we were sawing big white pine logs.

My testimonial to Christmas, some have a family get together and some some don`t.
I don`t have much get together so we humble ourselves to going to the woods and thank the Lord for what we have.
Thank God for all things :)

Your post brings back memories of long ago. Happy memories.

My grandpa used to run dogs and chase coyotes all over the countryside. He would get with one of his friends and they would turn the dogs loose and listen to the music of their cries. I loved being there.

He made a similar box out of plywood and would put it up on the tailgate. Drawers for coffee and the pot. Those cold nights are where I learned to drink coffee and enjoy the tales of men, not what passes for men today, but men who worked the land and cattle. Men who built things with their hands, who rode, slept under the stars and knew the night sky.

His last night on earth was spent this way.....I miss him.

Thank you for this. God bless.
