Rossi and general info 38/40 -- Questions

Post by black river smith »

The questions are.

Did Rossi or Chiappa or any of the suppliers ever offer an 1892 Rifle version in 38/40 caliber? If not what does lining an existing 24" barrel run nowadays?

I will be searching for a 38/40 1892 Rifle either Rossi or Chiappa or an original Winchester. I have to determine what approach is the best cost in this caliber.

Rossi has never done production runs that I know of. Back in the early 2000's when I was a warranty station for EMF we inquired about having some made. but, the minimum batch was 500 units.
That said it is possible they did do a few. the reason I say that is because I worked one in 41mag. that belonged to one of the LSI employee's when they were importing the Rossi's. It was the only one I ever saw.

A reline on a 24" octagon can be $4-to $500.

Gentleman thanks for the comment and info.

The fact that I have to pay straight retail at ~$700. Then the ~$500 alteration to the desired caliber. I believe an original at the same price or a few hundred more would be the best approach.

Too bad, I am not interested in a '66 or '73 reproduction. They do exist. Not many. But I have heard people state, they have one.

Again thanks.

Chiappa (Taylors) listed a 92 very early on. Within a year or two max, as I recall, it was gone. I have never seen one in the flesh.
