These bikes are somethin'!

Post by Bill in Oregon »

I've only ridden small bikes (like Honda Rebel small) but these things evoke a golden era from the past!

Good looking little bike, and a great size for around town, with limited freeway riding. Wonder whose engines they use in building them?

They have a section on their webpage that’s tells where all the components were manufactured and it said the motor comes from CHINA .

Hah! That looks amazingly close to my old '94 Honda XL 200, right down to the engine cc's and the top speed (slightly downhill with a tailwind maybe). That Honda is still in the family -- I gave it to a son-in-law and he likes to carry it along with his camper so he can bip around without having to disturb his camper set-up. They are indeed fun little bikes.

More a 'hipster' bike, doesn't appear well suited as a daily driver

Note that website says price *starts* at $6995?

Me, I'd go for something just as classy but more practical like the Royal Enfield Himalayan or Classic, both at about 2k less

Can't see Yamaha makes the SR400 anymore which is a true kick-start. That would give you street cred at the hipster coffee shops and the micobrews.

Yamaha TW200 though is an awesome little bike, daily driver street to climbing up power line trails.

I'm too much of an engine enthusiast to get much joy out of a under-powered motorcycle. Truly, a hot rod Harley is both so charismatic and fun to ride because of the torque. There are some amazing motorcycles that have come out in the last few years (for a great deal more money of course). Thanks to Bill's original post, I found something both nostalgic and high performance. I used to dream of owning one of the original of these after seeing some in the car and bike museum in San Diego, CA. The originals had no peer. I think Old Savage was driving age when the original ones were still available!

You have a point, but you can have a lot of fun flogging around a low end bike. And these weigh a quarter to a half of an HD street bike.

Not running them down, 'ride your own ride'. I'm actually looking around right now for an HD Road King as a retirement option. (closed that door last friday)

But anything I own has to have utility value, i.e. I can use as a daily driver, go get a load of groceries, etc. Running a VStrom 650 with sidecases right now, it's perfect for that.

I'll leave the custom art for someone with more bucks, or interest.

It is a good looking retro classic bike though.

I bought a Chinese cheapo version of the Janus bikes back in March, a Dongfang DF250 RTG. Powered by a Chinese copy of the Honda CB125 engine, bored out to 229 cc, it makes 16 hp and will do 70 -- briefly, under ideal conditions. But around town or country cruising at 45-55 mph, it's the bee's knees! Best $1249.87 I ever spent on two wheels.(They had a great sale going on back then!)

If you want to give your money to the CCP, buy one of these little rice-burners,

At least you'll have proof you're loyal to the party when they come marching down the street in a couple years.

I've been looking at the little Honda 125s. I can't decide between the Supercub and the CT125. I don't need anything big.

For that money or less a sportster, used dyna or Ducati scrambler. The Royal Enfield Himalayan is kind of cool also. If weight was a big issue then an old DT400 yami or or the like.

I've always had a fascination with these in 2 wheel drive. Might be a lot of fun off-road!

I just like the retro look that takes me back to early American motorcycles before World War I. A handy feller could fit some parts that would even evoke the days of the board trackers.
