So this is a long short story lol.
It all began back in 2009 when OldNo7 contacted me about a rifle that he had that his kids had out grown and wondering if my boys could find a use for it. Of course I said yes!
Time went by he got busy I got busy and it completely slipped from my mind as life marched on, Until about two months ago when I got a PM from OldNo7 saying he hadn’t forgotten and he would have the rifle put together and ready to send my way in a few weeks he just needed my FFL. Well took me a week to track down an FFL and get the info back to Darryl at which time he was finishing a last few details he was having done then he would have it in the mail.

So a week after New Year’s I head over to pick it up with the boys (who still didn’t know anything about it). When the gal at the counter handed it over to us the first thing my oldest say’s is “classy it has a lever” lol. I guess I managed to teach him something after all . We got all the paper work done and headed home with the new shooter making plans to get to the range that weekend so they can put it through its paces. In preparation I went to the LGS and picked up 400rounds of 22lr so they would have plenty to shoot (still have to drive all over to find the stuff around here this shop keeps a secret stash in back if you know how to ask nice he will dig it out for ya).
Finally the weekend comes and in spite of the threat of rain we load up and head to the range. Wouldn’t you know it those boys mange to burn through all 400 rounds over the course of the afternoon not to mention the ammo I brought for me to shoot in some of my other long guns lol.

So to drag this story out I was supposed to get this post up here for you all two weeks ago but what seems to be the trend to the whole story life is busy and time slips by on you fast. Darryl hope you’re not too cross with me for taking so long to post this.
I will let Darryl provide all the details but I will provide the eye candy.

It looks like a Martini-style tilting block Ithaca Model 49 Saddlegun single-shot rifle - factory stocked in Sycamore.

But......... the Agawam Arms Model 68 & the Stevens Model 89 look identical.

that is what I was thinking....had one of those when I was 13 and shot it lots, shot lots of small game, and had adventures on the mountains where I grew up. great little gun.

I'm not too proud of my turnaround time on that one, but I was happy with how it came out. I think the brass plate adds a touch of class to it, and I am just thrilled to see the pictures of Logan and Evan shooting it. It's marked "Sears" if I remember right, but is indeed an Ithaca-made Martini-action 22 single shot. The boys did well to put 400 rounds though her in one day!

Some may recall that Jeremy and his lovely wife Dee hosted me for St Patty's Day Dinner one year, many years ago, when I was out on the west coast on business. After a wonderful meal -- before which he showed me the famous "Project Sword" we all donated to him -- Jeremy toured me around Camp Pendleton, which was really neat. And for the first time in my life I saw the sun go down over the ocean. Plus I got to meet Dee and the boys too, and it was a terrific experience.

Speaking of terrific experiences, when I explained to some folks where this rifle was heading, I got the brass plate done at cost, my FFL only charged for shipping and not for his time, and the FFL on Jeremy's end cut her transfer rate in half too. All good folks stepping up to help out, which was pretty cool.

Anyway...

The real hero in all this is Jeremy for his service to our country.

I just wanted his boys to know that folks do appreciate our service men and women, and we recognize that the families make sacrifices too. I can't help everyone, and I can't bring back the days or months when Jeremy was away from his boys in the past... But if my gift brings a smile to all their faces when they're together now -- that's what counts.

After all, as Logan said... "It has a lever!"

I watched it in several times, and that muzzle never moved as the shot was fired... No flinchin' by a Son of JReed!

Me and my best friend used to use our Steven's CrackShot and Stevens Model 15 bolt actions to hunt mice in the barn, rats at the dump, and English Sparrows on the farm (we only shot 'invasive species'), and even though neither gun had a magazine at all, we'd each shoot up a brick of 500 22 LR's over the weekend.

Then when my son and daughter would get competitive with each other and shoot the steel 'flip-up' targets at 50 (later 75) yards, with their 10/22's, I was impressed that they could 'ration' their ammo and only use 200-300 rounds in a session, given the semi-auto "assault rifles" they were using.

I surely hope the 22 LR supply builds up again - the "high price" really isn't that bad, when you consider that in the 1970's it was $9.99 a brick, and inflation has been about 4 to 6 fold since then.

What a Great gift! I bought one for 30 dollars new and carried it all over. I sold mine when I was around 19 to a guy I worked with and my Dad said you will regret that. He was right that time also!

Evan has a 10/22 and Logan has a Mod 61 that they normally take to the range. They can sure burn through ammo out of those. Before 22 supplies took a hit they blew a 1,000 between the 2 of them in an all day session.
