Even tho' I included all the improvements(?) to the 1893 Marlin in the same selection... what I want is a square bolt "rifle" in either .32-40 or .38-55, which if I recall my Marlins correctly, means an 1893 or a 93. Is that right?

Ideally, I would like to pick up a Marlin 1894 pre safety in a .357 mag. However, a 1892 Rossi in .44 mag with the 24" octagon barrel and CCH receiver has popped up on my radar for a very reasonable price.
Unfortunately, I wont be buying either too soon, as I have started an AR build with the recent purchase of a lower receiver.

I would like to find a deal on an original Marlin 1894 32-20, and a Marlin 1894C. But what usually happens is when I'm looking for those, I find something else that I just can't live without.

If I get another levergun in the next year or two, it will probably be a bottleneck-cartridge one, like an 1895 in 35 Whelen, or a BLR in something like 243. Neither is very likely though, as I'm more in "downsizing" mode now, since I've got to the point where I need to replace several 'decent' guns with one 'awesome' one, and keep doing it through my whole collection.
As hard as it seems to consider, from a "practicality" standpoint, in terms of leverguns, I could make a case for only needing three of them: My Marlin 32-20 for "most stuff", with the Spike Driver for "big stuff", and my suppressed Ruger 96/22 for "little stuff".
Of course then I'd say I simply have to keep my 1894 44 Mag, since I have a 44 Mag revolver it goes so well with, then the same for the 1894c Marlin in 357. Then I'd argue that the Rossi's are slicker, and one should have at least one of them, or preferably one in each chambering the Marlins are in. Then...what about 45 Colt...? Isn't that a better cartridge anyway...? And everyone really needs a 30-30, and for that matter a 35 Remington. Of course one doesn't need a Ruger in 17 Mach-2, but one in 17 HMR seems almost a necessity.

Well, I'm wrestling with my next lever right now. It's a 95 square bolt and its got a ways to go yet. The buttstock is on and now needs to be shaped the last 1/16th inch or so and the forearm is one but the forearm cap needs fitting and all the metal needs filing, polishing, and bluing and case colors, but considering where I started, it is coming along very well.

I kind of have a list of "cool" stuff in the back of my head, not specific wants or things I'm actively hunting for. Every once in a while, I run across something off that list, especially something that isn't made any longer, is priced attractively and then I proceed to do something foolish with a credit card.
Judging from what's caught my attention lately, if I stumble across a Marlin levermatic in .30 carbine, or worse yet, .256 WinMag...I'm sunk. Ditto for a Model 39TDS or a Model 94M, as long as they're not priced the way they've been on GunBroker of late.
Well, got the one I was looking for and sold the one i was done with. Would like something in .45, but am not actively looking... Or want a Rossi that badly.

My Marlin 336 (30-30) and 1895G (Guide Gun, 45-70) are two prized possessions; two long guns that I suspect will last a lifetime or two if handled with respect. It would be nice to have a slick Savage 99 with its rotary magazine that handles that .30-30 round on steroids, the powerful .308 Winchester... not that I need it at the moment!
Not listed. Henry .22 Yellow Boy. The shop I bought my Glock 42 has one on the rack. Nice octagon barrel, and the brass does look nice.

See "Erma .22", of which the Henry is a copy.
First, the Yellow Boy is made in the US.
Second, is Erma still in business? I seem to recall they went belly up in the late 90's.

Being made in the US is a different criteria than my question. I just listed he "original" version 1st. Although I marked Winchester 1873 & 1876, I'm actually contemplating the Uberti copy of those.he Erma was a fine rifle, as is the Henry version... mechanically differentiated from either 9422 or 39, so listed separately.
Yes I believe ERMA is defunct. Or at least no longer making firearms.

That does look like a nice one, but alas it has exceeded the amount I am currently willing to pay. If the 2,441 number is correct I may have to readjust my figure accordingly though. Anybody know if that is a valid production number?

Interestingly enough, I found this in our own forum, which says the same thing about the production. Then again, I may be using circular reasoning; the person selling the gun might have gotten his information from here!
FWiedner (here at Leverguns) apparently has one, per the postings.
UPDATE:
"The Model 336ER (Extra-Range) carbine was introduced in 1983. It was designed for the .356 Winchester cartridge, and was essentially a Model 336C rechambered for that round. The Model 336ER proved to be non-too-popular, with only 2440 being built, and sales being extremely slow. (Rumors say that new Model 336ERs can still be found from time to time.) Production was stopped less than a year later in 1984."

Either way, it appears that the gun would be a collectible. I see that my Hornady book does not mention the round, but the article mentions that the caliber takes a .358 bullet, despite its nomenclature.
I had a pair of the 336ER's . Got one from a guy on MO years ago and the other came from a guy who bid it against me on Gunbroker . I either got to know him here or on MO can't remember . I kept them both about 4 years then turned them both for a profit . Used one for jacketed and the other for cast and killed deer with both which is nothing amazing .
As to the next lever mine is a little outta the realm !
I want a CPA 44 1/2 in full Pope Schuetzen regalia and two barrels on for the 32-40 and the other for the 28-30 Stevens .

Those little black powder cartridges are indeed addictive.
Easy on the wallet to load.
Easy on the shoulder to shoot.
And contrary to rag writers BS, very capable of putting meat in the freezer.
To be totally honest I have grown rather tired of the stereotypical lever action rifle . And where my lever accumulation was once at the 90+ level I am now down to 3 Marlin's and an old Winchester 1894 .
Shotguns have always interested me . Well that is SxS's , O/U's and some single barrels . And I seem to be more interested in that direction at the moment .
Something I've never messed with are double rifles or Paradox double shotguns . These kinda pique my curiosity now . As do the fine old AMERICAN MADE 8 and 10 gauge guns . Don't get me wrong I like all the "normal" gauges but the two big boys intrest me more at the moment .

Doubles, esp rifles, can be a hell of a disease. I finally got over it but it was hard! Stalking them on the internet and through the auction houses is a lot of fun. Shooting one and hunting with one is almost but, as it turns out, not quite as fun.
Been lurking for a while but I think this is my first post.
I just got permission from SWMBO to get a second 94 Winchester in 30-30 if I could do it without dipping into household money. After all of two seconds consideration I determined that I had enough 94-3-3 casting alloy to spare and put up a bunch of it for sale. When the last of the money for that arrives I'll be going shopping. There's a early 80ish 94 that I was quoted $375 for, the one with decent wood and checkering, just about like new. That's the first one to check on, the second is a VG 94 with what looks like walnut and an oil finish, age unknown but fairly recent.
Whichever one I get, especially if it ends up being the pretty one, will probably end up getting swapped with the wife for "her" 30-30, good shooter buy a bit beat up. That, in turn will be going out west to get rebored and chambered to 35/30-30.
Don't ask why I want to the rebore route, I've just got it in my head I want something a little bigger bore that I can shoot cast in and be something I'll have the only one I know of in the area.

I latched onto a 'second' one but after awhile realized I didn't need two, so I got a 17 HMR barrel and swapped it out (of course with the 96/22 series, as with the 10/22 and 77/22 series, that's just a matter of two allen-screws and five minutes or less; the 96/44 has a regular barrel attachment).
Now I have five 96's:
22 LR with integrally-suppressed 'Operator' (Thompson Machine) barrel - my 'newbie' lesson-gun
22 LR with Williams aperture sight - promised (darn it) to my daughter
22 WMR with Williams aperture sight
17 HMR with scope (and it is a tack-driver even with the skinny Green Mountain barrel)
44 Mag with scope/laser (sorry, but it DOES help for deer in dim light)

Why, we would never ask 'why'. . . we are enablers. . . . so we'll likely ask 'why not', especially if you want to spend your money or time on something the rest of can enjoy vicariously, like a cool re-boring project...!
You only live once, and there are lots of cool guns out there to enjoy, and as long as the object isn't an irreplaceable heirloom or 'collector' grade item, why not modify it to suit your taste, and enjoy it...? I feel sorry for guns that just become Safe Queens or Wall Hangers.
