Weaver/ Redfield scopes

Post by boolitshooter »

Please school me on when and why The Weaver/ Redfield names both we're put on scopes.
Did Redfield by Weaver or visa versa?
I did not want to hijack the "classified" thread.

The Redfield sight company bought the Stith scope company originally and later Leupold bought the Redfield name . Weaver at some point was purchased by the group that owns Simmons scopes I believe.I believe at some point the same folks that own Simmons also bought the rights to the Redfield scope mounts.

Are you sure on that information? Reason I am asking is I though I read somewhere that Leupold also bought the rights to the Weaver scopes. :?:

Weaver got it's name from the founder W.R. Weaver.

Most likely, the reason you're confugled is that the Weaver scope seller has inadvertantly included a pic of a similar Redfield scope, in with his pics of his Weaver scope F/S pics. .

I always assumed (wrongly) that Jack Weaver had something to do with the Weaver optics company :) -- name recognition
