AUSSIE INVASION REPORT - THANK YOU USA

Post by peter richards »

Firstly I want to thank you, the American people for making us all feel so welcome, this was my first trip to your shores & it will not be the last. I turned 40 while over there & it is a shame I took so long to get there. All my life people have told me I should have been born in the Wild West 100 years earlier & they were right. I missed my wife & 4 young children terribly while I was away from home, but I made 8 lifelong friends in my travelling companions pictured below, & countless friends along the way, especially in Hondo Texas with friends made on this site, Joe & Charles, as well as Richard, Terry, Scott & Toby.
Everyone back home that asks me how was your trip, I tell them it will take me at least half a day to tell you how good it was.
In summary I ended up with 3 full credit cards, 9 more rifles for my collection, 80 pounds of gun books, 8 large boxes shooting gear for my little home gun shop & a million great memories. The group ended up with close to 30 guns to ship home.
We shot belt fed machine guns, played up in Vegas (I can't tell you about that as what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas), spent time & money in Bass Pro, Scheels & 4 different Cabelas, & at least 25 gun shops. We had tours of the Shiloh Sharps & C Sharps factories, the Hawthorne Ordnance Museum, the Elmer Keith Museum & had a great time at the Big Reno Gun Show incorporating the Winchester Arms Collectors Western Show. We tried to fit so much in we were late getting to both the Buffalo Bill Historical Centre & the Custer Memorial, so both of them opened up after hours & gave us private tours, unbelievable service that was much appreciated. Each member of our group got something different out of the trip, Jake wanted to hunt & got his Elk, his father Peter got Harley T shirts from several different towns, & the pleasure of see his son take the Elk, Mates John & Jimmy are both BPCR shooters, John has a number of Shiloh Sharps, so his highlight was the Shiloh tour, Jimmy picked up some sights as well as a couple of nice old rifles, Craig came for a good time & was a great source of knowledge along the way, as well as being a great navigator, father & son Leon & Matt had a great time, Leon was the life of the party & Matt liked the Machine Gun shoot so much he went back for seconds, Paul wanted to pick up rifles to take home & sell, so he raced us to all the bargains & out bought all of us, I got to see snow for the first time, got to see Toby Keith, Kellie Pickler & Dale Watson perform, & got to see more F series Fords than I had in my life (my other passion).
I will post more pics & tell more stories as I think of them, but I want to finish by thanking Joe for your knowledge & professionalism, & for guiding me on the best hunt of my life.
Thanks also to Rick & Georgia Hill & the members of the WACA that made us feel so welcome in Reno. Thank You

Glad that you had a great time in the US. In 1968 I got to visit Sydney for 5 days on R&R. Enjoyed the chance to decompress. I enjoyed all the Aussies I met.

I bought chains just in case but we did not need them, drove thru some ice & slush between Jackson Hole & Cody, & south of Billings on the edge of Yellowstone. It was great to see.

Fabulous trip. So glad you enjoyed your trip in the US. Y'all probably accounted for the spike in the US economy... it had been heretofore inexplicable!  It sounds like that would have been a dream vacation for many of us here on the forum!

Great going, a trip of a lifetime. I always wanted to do the same sort of tour down under.

When you get back, are you going to pin up one side of your cowboy hat brim?
