Stock Finishes

Post by Swampman »

The different stock finishes used by Marlin are interesting. My 1968 era 336 seems to have an oil finish. My 1976 era 336 seems to have a thicker poly finish. By the 1980s it seems like a thin satin (and not very durable)varnish was used. My 1972 1895 has a finish that looks like a Browning in that it's very very smooth. My 1992 .444 has a glossy poly that is nice looking. The Glenfields seem to have little in the way of a sealer on them. Of course you all know what the current Marlin stock finish looks like.

Do these stock finishes seem to mirror your observations?
