Thanks, i really like the old bikes, the sporty pic was taken in LA in 1979, rode that bike accross the country three times. The 73 Shovel i rode for 18 years and was a good bike and both were AMF bikes.
I like the dressers for the comfort but something keeps bringing me back to the old iron, i still want a pan head chopper someday. :)

Just ran across this the other day and never seen it before - concept Dodge Tomahawk.

0-60 in 2.5sec. Theoretical top speed near 400mph. Since it has 4 wheels it's technically not a "motorcycle".

My interests lean towards the dirt -------- top is a late model yz 450 F, middle is a 2 stroke KX500, last and least is my old Sporty. It ran well , but i would rather do 40 foot doubles than 40 miles in traffic

Heres my ride, 2011 Harley Davidson Iron 883.

Just got back from our annual gunshow on it. Looked kinda funny with a copy of Madis 'The Winchester Book' poking out of my jacket on the way home. Picked it up brand new for 90 bucks! The book that is ;)

This is the same as my one and only bike (although I've ridden many others) that I bought to use while stationed at the Presidio de Monterey in 1973-1974. During the gas crisis I would take the tank off and walk up to the front of the line and pump gas from an unoccupied pump. It was pretty good but you would get blown around a bit riding down Highway 1 to Big Sur. That one bridge could be quite intimidating. I sold the bike when I left CA for my next post (Goodfellow AFB, San Angelo, TX) but the guy I sold it too didn't process the title and later abandoned the bike. CA eventually sent me a nastygram about it and I had to send a notarized statement that stated I'd sold it and to whom I'd sold it. I thought it was about perfect for a commuter bike. There is, however, no cool factor.

This 1977 R100S BMW and I have been close since birth (the bike's) Best known as BMW's first liter displacement engine, first Beemer to do the 1/4 mile in under 13 seconds and top 120 MPH on the level (I ran out of courage at 110 but wasn't out of throttle) - only drawback - engine designed for high octane leaded gas - which disappeared about 1980. Best solution for me (didn't reduce performance as other choices did) was go to dual plugs - which has worked well.

Image

Left coil runs lower plugs and right one upper plugs - allowing leaning out carbs - turns in about 55 MPG - keeping at speeds not much over 70 and runs great on premium gas.

Image
The electric cord and plug by the seat/tank junction is for my jacket/glove heater - it gets cold in the mountains in winter

We're individuals - another surgeon was pushing mandatory seat belt laws some years ago and "forced" the sticker on me - I assured him later that sticker was on my dash - he never asked which vehicle but I think he knew -

Image

A couple of years ago on some twisty mountain roads, I turned up the wick to avoid a tailgater, so did he, so did I - etc - got to a place to wave him by - only to discover red & blue lights on top for him. Asked if I had a reason for going that speed (legally - could have been charged with more than speeding - more than 30 MPH over limit) - meant to explain my avoiding tailgating but it came out "I try to not hold up traffic". Guess that was one he hadn't heard - looked like he was trying to keep a straight face - but, when he brought my papers back from his vehicle, was just cracking up.

He had expected a "young punk speeder on a new sport bike" - but wasn't prepared to get an 80 year old man riding a 30 year old bike.

I promised to do better (he didn't ask what I meant by doing better) and he just gave me a verbal warning.

We're painfully aware of aging changes but seldom get the advantages.

Thats my idea of a "street bike" now too ---- just enough extra hardware to mount a tag and some blinkers so you can ride to the track or trail if you want to ! :D

I just stepped outside and snapped this:
MVC-030F.JPG
Yes, there's still snow in the driveway. I just didn't feel like clearing it off after the last storm went through. FWIW, the snowblower is parked just to the left of the Valk and I've had the occasional impulse to replace the front end of the bike with it and make a snoweating sort-of CanAm Spyder out of the two pieces.

Here, this is more like it:

Wow, glad I checked in here. Been busy hot-rodding and breaking in my new 103 build on my 09 Harley Street Bob. It seems the exhaust is holding me back as its only making 105 HP and 110 TQ and is should be doing more so next month it gets a new Fat Cat exhaust and tune to go with. It should fix the problem. This pic was taken prior to the engine build. The other bikes are a 2009 Buell 1125 CR and 2001 ATK 605 dual sport. All nice bikes but the Harley is my favorite.
