My Winchester Deluxe 1894 lettered.....BIG TIME
If you just search the serial number it dates to 1905, but it has matching proof marks, on the barrel and receiver. Proof marks didn't show up, on the 1894, until July 1907, so I decided to get it lettered and boy was I surprised. This rifle has a little history.
I'm starting to think about not selling it, but I'll come to my senses once I keep reminding myself it isn't a Marlin.
Here are the condensed details, from the Cody letter......
It originally arrived in the warehouse 12/10/1908 and shipped the next day 12/11/1908.
The original configuration was:
32WS, 24" octagon barrel (unstated, but assumed to be a full mag), plain trigger, checkered stock with pistol grip, and a shotgun buttplate.
It was returned, repaired, and reshipped on 1/18/1909. I can only assume that this was to install the Lyman #21 receiver sight.
It was returned again on 12/16/1909 and reshipped on 12/28/1909, with the following changes:
Changed to a rifle buttplate, 1/2 octagon barrel, 1/2 mag, and a new, probably wanted 3x wood, checkered pistol grip stock.
I guess the original owner wasn't happy, with the original configuration and had some money. All this work was done in a one year period.

That is a gorgeous rifle.

Beautiful rifle. Lucky dog. Of course, if you do decide to sell it you'll put in on our classifieds first.

A-MEN!! She's a beauty, all right. Please don't let someone talk you out of that rifle, '94s like that are not seen every day.

Re: My Winchester Deluxe 1894 lettered.....BIG TIME
I'm really a rimfire guy and if this was a rimfire 1873 there would be no question me about me keeping it. It's also too hard to find the brass, bullets, primers and powder lately. I've consulted with several Winchester collectors and they advised me what a fair and realistic price would be based on the condition and letter. I really don't have an emotional attachment to it and want to use the proceeds to fund firearms that I am interested in.Mike D. wrote:A-MEN!! She's a beauty, all right.
