My latest project.

Well this one isn't a Marlin, but it is a step parent, now that they are owned by Remington!
I recently picked up this #1 Rolling Block Sporting rifle action. It was complete, but needed TLC, a barrel and wood. I ordered a Green Mountain .40 cal. barrel blank with a 1-16" twist in 34" length. Sent the action and blank to John Taylor and he did the contouring, chambering, welded up some pits, cut and welded the shotgun extractor, d&t for a Lee Shaver soule tang sight, made some screws, and did a few other minor repairs. I also had John trim it to 32", to match my other #1 in 32" full octagon.
Just got it back today, so now I'm getting ready to fit the wood, blue the barrel, block, hammer, and screws. Then it's off to have the receiver cased and it will be finished! Might have Dale Woody do some scratching on the receiver if I feel real flush by then!

Yep! I do love long barrels and the extra sighting radius they give me! With the tang sight, and 32" barrel this gal should really suit my style!-Vall

Waiting for John King to send the steel forearm tip, and Track of the Wolf to send the English checkered steel buttplate, but in the mean time I can fit the wood to the barrel, receiver, and tangs. Wont shape until I have the other pieces to work from.-Vall

Now I can see why you leaned toward this project as opposed to getting a Shiloh. Plus you get the "cool factor" of the OLD action.

I sent Merz the check today for that 28" 1897! YIKES!! Hopefully the right thing to do. The man back there, name is Al sure is a nice guy to deal with.

A bit confused on my end Don? I had John chamber it for .40-65 WIn. and told him I was using Starline-PMC brass. I'll have to ask him "which .40-65" he used, as I didn't know there were two .40-65 Win reamers, or did you mean .40-65 Ballard? The barrel is a .400" land, with .408" groove.

Well if it were as simple as one reamer.....
There's the 40-65 winchester, 40-65 winchester/shiloh, 40-65 Ron Long, and the 40-65 Browning.... and yes the 4065 Ballard but that one would be a pain for cases.
