My latest lever

Post by reflex264 »

I bought this 336A .35 circa 1952 topped with a K3 in mint condition in a seat of Weaver pivots after 2 years of trying. The gun is all original and nicer than it looks here. I still haven't got to shoot it. reflex264

They are very good shooters with the Ballard rifling.
Yours is a super hunting rifle although some of the colector value was lost when they drilled and tapped for the scope mounts , The rear sling swivel appears to be mounted in the bullseye location so if you wanted to change that a new bullseye would fix that.
Shoot, hunt and enjoy one of the best levers ever made. :D

I am not a marlin person but that is one nice looking marlin. Me I am a winchester person just because they feel right to me and that was what my first lever was so I got spoiled or conditioned that was what a lever gun was.
I have a Japanese model 92 on layaway with 24 inch barrel. Yes I like long barrels will post a pic or two when I get it in 2 months.
I would like to one day get a model 39a marlin one day as I do like them go figure. I don't like the winchester model 9422 but would like one in 22rfm if I ever find one at a price that won't bankrupt me. Being on a fixed income sure does mess things up when it comes to buying toys or firearms.

Reflex,
Nice find! I have a 336A 35Rem & 336A 32 Win Spl, both with "J' serial numbers. With H4895 and 200gr Hdy & BTB 170gr HC, respectively, they are great shooters. Now that I have Ranch Dog molds for both, I need to get on with casting and load development. By the way, the Hdy LE stuff works great in both of the rifles....very accurate.

Best,
Dan

OOPS, forgot to mention my (1952) .32 Win Spl. has a Microgoove barrel; since Marlin didn't introduce the MC barrels until later in the 50's, I would guess that mine had been re-barrelled somewhere along the way. I don't know, all numbers "match".....receiver (inside), tang (inside), bolt (bottom flat) barrel (bottom rear bevel over mag tube). I guess that the re-barrelling was done by Marlin.......

Best,
Dan

I just shot it. One fouling shot then 3 through one hole. We shot it some more. The gun is awsome. Pics of groups later. reflex264

The 336A is a nice piece, I lucked out a few years ago and found a real nice one in a gun store in Oregon for $125.00 in near mint shape. Goes back to about 1984 I guess, good investment for sure, as yours will be too when you look back someday.

It was so close I just moved the cross hairs a bit and it is ready to go. +3" at 100 yards per Hornady's recomendation. I can't wait to get this one to the 300 and 400 yard range. reflex264
