That seems to be the goan of the government.
This is a far cry from a government by, of and for the people.

Re: Thinking of a 1886/71 in 444 marlin
. I just get nervous having to sort and track two different power-levels of loads, and the slightly thicker metal of the 444 in most actions vs the 45-70 makes me more comfortable with that cartridge. Realistically, if you blindfolded me (and probably most shooters), and had us shoot 444 vs 45-70, ...

Scott, that is the nasty old Remington dish-based that came lubed some kind of black goo and they shot very well for me, not to mention they looked like they came from the 19th century. True enough. I shoot that Hornady bullet over 8 gr of Unique which seems to duplicate the Remington .45 Colt factory load.

Ive always wanted a fixed sight 83 I had to file quite a bit off the front sight to get it to shoot to the sights with my loads, but it’s not a problem. There are "better" bullets available now, for certain applications. But don't forget what has been done with them in the past. And it wasn't because humans were weaker then than they are now! All the wars between the 1860's and now saw roundnose bullets being used, first in rifles and han...

Following up on this, I used to shoot a Lyman government bullet in a .45-70 which was 520 or so grains at 1100 fps. Even when shot into a very resistant material like wet newspaper, it would penetrate so straight that you could run a rod through the bullet path. Prior to that, I shot a Marlin with a...

I’m no expert but I find that some older bullet designs penetrate in a straight line. Keith bullets and LBT LFNs do this as do the older Lyman designs for the .45 Colt and .45-70. The 270 SAA seems to track straight as well. Sounds like you made a clean kill and the bullet did its job but I would al...

I’ve got an old box full (well not anymore) of very old once fired brass from the old SAPD range. Probably a couple of thousand empties. So I spent the day loading up a good stash of ammo for later in the year.
Some of this was from factory wadcutter ammo from the looks of the cannelures.

You can order a number of their offerings in different diameters. You can save on shipping by ordering several boxes at a time and get them recovered in a flat rate box. Your postal guy won’t like it but you should treat them well at Christmas time anyway

I find that these are made with really good quality control and sell at a reasonable price. They seem to shoot well in all of my revolvers and don’t lead with standard loads. Even my Marlin Cowboy shoots them with no noticeable fouling when I use 3 gr of Bullseye.

That’s interesting. This was probably the first .22 I ever shot. Dad trained us by putting an empty .22 case on a board on the other side of the corral and we would shoot from a rest across a board on the other side of the corral. His dad taught him the same way. Same corral.
