Re: An old experiment that I need to get back to

Kind of making me want to go shoot my Single Six Special! I have a bunch of 250 cast bullets but no Unique. I do have Universal which is just a tad slower. Though no data for it with 250s. You can use the same data as Unique. Start with 6 gr and work up if you feel the need. You may decide to stop ...

Re: I was talking with some friends about the S&W Model 10

I think the Model 10 is the sweet spot for the .38 Special cartridge. Small enough for comfortable carry and big enough to shoot well. The triggers on the older guns are particularly easy to work with.

Re: An old experiment that I need to get back to

You have indeed done everything to make it shoot. Keep us posted! I was shooting some .430 diameter Keith’s today and I noted that they were lose in the cylinder throats. They clocked just under 950 fps. So I ordered some .432 diameter Keith bullets this afternoon. That should fill the chamber thro...

Re: An old experiment that I need to get back to

That's a beaut! What exactly is the experiment here ? The gun did not shoot well from the factory. It seems to be mechanically correct, but it did not shoot well. I lapped the barrel to slick it up and re-cut the forcing cone. Opened up and made the chamber mouths uniform. I had Bobby Tyler put a F...

I like the 4 inch heavy barrel Model 10s and 13s.

But I shoot better with a little heavier gun. SAPD marked 681.

A fixed sight service revolver is still the top of the heap as far as I am concerned. I guarantee that the flier in this group is not the gun but my fault.

I've got the same one, closest thing to a factory version of Keith's No.5 that's ever come along. There was a period of time after the .44 Special Flattops had been out for a while where I'd see used ones for around $450 all the time. I wish that I'd grabbed up every one of them now. That’s exactly...

I occasionally buy a box or two because this is a predictable load that shoots very well in my Marlin carbine (which doesn’t shoot cast bullets that well). All of my .45 Colt chambered leverguns are on 1866 or 1873 actions.

However, I shot a 270SAA bullet over 8 gr of Unique clean through a big cow and recovered it from the dirt on the other side.

This was from a 4 3/4 inch barrel so it might have a bit more from my leverguns.

I use the factory front bead for fine adjustment due to range.
