Re: I have work to do with this new '73

Those rifles are a lot of fun, Bill. Half the fun is getting them to shoot to your satisfaction. I experimented quite a bit with my Taylors & Co. Uberti 1873 44-40 rifle, and settled on a fairly hard cast bullet from the mold I believe was designed by Mr Kort, and a substantial load of 2F Olde E...

Childhood Memories

Funny how one little item you come across by pure happenstance can bring back so many memories from so long ago. As a preteen farm kid growing up in the mid 70's I was no stranger to shooting a gun very early on. I got my first BB gun around 6 or 7 years old. Countless sparrows fell prey to it, tryi...

Another vote for the Skinner rear sight. Even better would be to add their front sight, too. I find precise aiming is much easier with a square post.

Very nice, thank you for posting "before and after." How does it shoot? What load do you prefer. I just shoot various 158 gr cast loads. The small sights in combination with my eyes make precise shooting difficult for me. Grapefruit size groups at 25 yards are good enough for me with this...

Thanks, everyone, for your prayers. My shoulder reconstruction went well. Surgeon said it was worse than he thought once he got in there, but he was happy with the results. S&W Restoration Project

I picked up this old S&W 33-1 at a Pawn Shop a while back. It was in pretty rough shape with rusted areas, scratches, dings, etc. I cleaned it up initially and used a little cold blue to try and make it a little more presentable. Still looked pretty rough, so I recently stripped it down and gave...

The Harbor Freight powder is just poor quality for this application. It works ok if you use an electro static spray gun applicator, but not so much with the shake and bake method of application.

What's the advantage of powder coating ... other than some cool color coding for testing. Does the powder coating suffice to replace normal tumble lube? Yes, the powder coat replaces the lube. Other advantages are less smoke, and a squeaky clean bore when you're done shooting. You can push hard lea...

I tend to prefer CCI over anything else due to their consistency. But these days if I needed primers I'd grab whatever I could.

On another note, the CCI small pistol magnum primers are the same primer as the CCI small rifle primer. Exact same primer in a different box.

Today, I picked up this Winchester 92 to partner with my Colt SAA. Both 38 W.C.F. It's a decent old rifle without a single Bubba'd screw head, wood still proud of the metal, and a bore that looks like it did 100 years ago. The right side of the wrist, for some reason, wears 2 small brass tacks. I pr...
