When I was growing up my uncle decided he wanted an exotic animal so he got an Ocelot kitten. He named it Dynamite because it would 'explode' across the room. First it was on the left, then on the right, never in the middle. Fastest thing I've ever seen. He installed eyebolts in the middle of each r...

My responses were neither a 'rant or a rave'. I produced a thoughtful, considered, evaluation of his words. Dead or not, his opinion on the value of the .223 and AR type weapons were his, and his alone. He didn't speak for the prevailing thoughts at the time he wrote that as you claim but rather aga...

Sarge is correct that the 16" bbl versions take different sights, however, the OP was asking about a 20" carbine and the 45W front sight I have on mine is correct as I stated while the 37W is correct for my 24" oct bbl rifle.

The original M16s came with a 1:14 twist, however, that was soon replaced with a 1:12 twist in the M16A1 to better stabilize the 55grn M193/M196 rounds. Currently, the M16A4/M4A1 family use a 1:7 twist to stabilize both the Belgian-designed 62grn M855/M856 rounds and 77grn M262 rounds currently in u...

Re: .45acp V. .357---Let's Settle This Once and For All
I've noticed that for the most part, this thread has steered itself towards the self defense properties of both calibers. The OP mentioned field use for 4 legged critters too and there I believe that in a pistol, the 357mag has the advantage over the 45acp. Addressing 76/444's comment, I agree that ...

All - My, what a stir a 40 year old cartridge description created! Rebutting his statements are important because the anti-gunners are using his words as a 'noted authority' to try and ban ARs and similar weapons. I've got a Marbles tang mount on my 357 and a Williams receiver mount on my little Henry 22lr. Both do well if you keep your eyes as close to the aperture as you can. That way your depth of field is greater than with a regular rear sight.

Re: .45acp V. .357---Let's Settle This Once and For All
While I agree on the 357mag in a carbine, my understanding of the 45acp for 4 legged animals is that it leaves something to be desired. That said, I'd pack my custom 6" slide and bbl G20L with 17+1 rds of fire breathing 10mm over either my 6" G21L with 14+1 rds of 45acp+P or any 6" bb...

Re: How strong are the '73's?
The basic design of the action (toggle link) just isn't strong enough to take a round like the 357mag. The 44-40 is a low pressure cartridge that wasn't introduced until they released the newer, stronger model 92. That round has nowhere near the bolt thrust of a 357mag. I understand that with today'...

Make no mistake, the carbine ain't no fine piece of hardware. Its clunky and basic, the trigger is 'interesting', and the mags only hold 10 rds. That said, it is accurate enough at 100yds for a pistol round and it does go bang every time you pull the trigger. Like I said, I got it for my son when he...
