Perhaps it looked/sounded funny, but to the critters involved it was a true fight for survival. Not necessarily at that moment but from starvation later.

Throw in terms like Hawgleg, Smokewagon, forty five, etc and the true use of any word becomes clear. That use is to convey thoughts and ideas in a manner that others can understand. So, whether you refer to a semi auto as a pistol and revolvers as a pistol, as long as the thought or idea is conveyed...

Can't figure out why any fool ever put a pistol grip stock on a lever gun. Makes working the lever a pain in the butt. The .45 colt was designed to shoot horses. War isn't pretty. The best way to unseat a cavalry troop is to shoot his horse. It's a very big target. In westerns you'll see bandits chasing a stage coach. In reality if one wanted to stop a coach you'd simply kill one of the horses. The remaining horses ...

Firearms and ammunition is like many other pursuits. Folks are always reinventing the wheel and praising its attributes. But, it’s still round and doesn’t roll any better.
Newer ammunition and firearms don’t kill one bit better because dead is dead.
