45 Colt in the 800 to 850 fps range is pretty pleasant to shoot. Those 230 grain bullets punch deep enough that I sure don't want to be hit with one. I tend toward Hodgdon powders as they are more common in my area.

I was never a big fan of 9mm or 5.56, but it doesn't hurt to have something to shoot them. I found a few primers and some powder at my local Academy Sports and Outdoors. I try to shoot as often as I can.

Ruger gas operated. 23.5 grains H110 and a WLP primer under a 240 grain jhp. Lighter loads do not cycle the action as well as I like. Winchester White box works. I learned to avoid the cheaper stuff. It doesn't always work even for practice. The pigs have never complained.

Absolutely. Accuracy is paramount to full power. A .480 with standard weight bullets (300-370) will cleanly take anything in the lower 48, and do great on most everything in Africa. I think the ability to shoot accurately and put your shot exactly where you want to, is much better than firing a how...

.480 Ruger was made by Rossi. They run to a maximum of 48,000 psi.
