Re: .510 Bullet testing in 500 L and 50 Alaskan

MP Mold in .510, drops right at 500 grains, sized ( to .512) and lubed. I set up a 48” long table with 2-2x6’s in the back strapped to a gallon jug, and the first 36” with 1/2 jugs of water. With a fairly mild load thru a 20” 50 Alaskan barrel ( Marlin 1895, now 50AK) the bullet blew all the jugs, a...

.510 Bullet testing in 500 L and 50 Alaskan

I have a thing for the larger calibers, and although I don’t use rifles to hunt with, I love playing with my 500 Linebaugh and 50 Alaskan Marlin 1895’s. I picked up a MP Molds 525 grain plain base Bullet, and wanted to see how the huge hollow point performed. The solid drops a 524.5 grain bullet, th...

Re: "I'm Gonna...." dedicated to all those who are thinking of hunting with a handgun

Jim, The only way to only hunt with a handgun is only carry a handgun. Riding around with a handy revolver of opportunity, is a great way to start. I’ve flown out on many trips in Alaska, with a scoped revolver, ( or maybe a single shot) and a back pack. The pilots always looked at me crosswise, unt...

Loading 50AK with 500L dies

I know the Lee crimp die will work fine, as the 500 Linebaugh and 50 Alaskan use the same bullets. Wondering if anyone loads and sizes the long cases, with 500 Linebaugh dies.

Re: Cast bullet weights for 375 Winchester

I know jacketed bullets with a flat nose in 375 are hard to come by. There was a gentleman on here with a bunch of extra bullets, both cast and factory jacketed. I picked up quite a few. I also have 3 handguns that shoot .375’s, so a great assortment of bullets to try. The single shot pistols (375JD...

Re: The casting shed

I started casting years ago, when the availability of .510 bullets made it a must. Now I realize how much I save, even though I cast almost all gas checked bullets. If I cast 500 bullets, I can save $200. It’s fun and satisfying. So I’m actually making money by casting. Now I have many molds, so I’l...

Re: 41 GNR in a lever?

I think it would be fairly simple to convert a 41mag to 41GNR, ream the chamber, and it may work without further work, as the 41 and 44 cartridges are the same length. If you started with a 44 mag rifle, it would have to be rebarreled and chamber done also. I also don’t believe it would create undo ...

I wanted to get a big loop lever for a straight stock 1895 marlin, but none available. So after using every bullet design possible, the rounded nose Bullet worked much better, but I want to shoot ANY bullet in this gun, so more testing to do. The altered design of the .512, 435 grain gas checked Bullet will have a long flat nose, with a meplat of .25. The long tapered nose should make a huge difference in sliding across the feed ramp over wide flat nose bullets with a .420 or .460 meplat. They will still work fine in a revolver, and is r...
