Re: I can still shoot....
Good shooting Nath---really enjoy your posts! So, educate me. Those rabbits looks the same as our Cottontails out here in Wyoming. I've eaten and hunted them since I was young----but, I've never been taught how to tell a buck from a doe---until after they are dead. Can you tell me how you tell them ...

Re: 10 million hunters
I've read articles that pretty much say the same----I think the Midwest and Corn Belt has pretty high populations of folks that pretty much hunt deer. Not many opportunities for elk in those areas and lots of deer licenses and hunters, but I do see a lot of hunters here in the Rockies hunting for el...

Re: October 2017 Leverguns Postal Match
Late, but under the wire entry for humor's sake. Shot it last night in the wild Wyoming wind----my meter said 23mph sustained and 45mph gusts. I was happy to keep them all on paper, except one---and maybe the 21st shot counts as a cut....HA!

Merle, if you are printing it in color, try black and white, it may show up better.

Re: October 2017 Leverguns Postal Match
Kind of figured it should be at 1/2" when you mentioned one shot out of the 50. The resolution on the print is better from the one in the text than the attachment, but both print at 3/4". I'm no techie, so I have no idea how to resize mine. Thanks again Griff, I'll wait to see what size ot...

Re: October 2017 Leverguns Postal Match
I did get it to print both ways---I measured the rope and it's 3/4" diameter, is that the correct size? In order to get the part with the name line to print, I have to use legal size.
Thanks,
Jon.
Thanks,
Jon.

Re: Levergun ptarmigan, old style
Good point about the newer ones----I've never picked one up and handled it, thanks for mentioning that they don't handle well----a shotgun should possess good handling characteristics and a heavy barrel would generally not be an attribute. Pretty much throws cold water on the idea of buying a new on...

Re: Levergun ptarmigan, old style
Thanks for posting hfcable. Really neat shotguns and great that you get and use them. I've thought about buying one of the new ones---Marlin, Winchester or Henry several times. I suspect yours is 2 1/2, correct? I'm also wondering how it patterns?

Re: Why are they hiding the poles?
Interesting. I work with maps every day for my job and I've never even thought about this. I don't work in areas near the poles. We do get pole reversal every so many million years and magnetic vs true does change, so maybe it's a moving target to pun a phrase...and they can't hit it.....HA!

Re: Anyone use a Gracey case trimmer?
I use a Gracey---I generally leave it set up for 223 only. I use a Giraud cutter in mine--I've never tried the Jones. My biggest complaint is that they are hard to set up. What earlmck said is very important, give it a turn or two after you feel it has finished cutting, that will really help. Also, ...

Re: MT & WY fishing Bear Protection?
Just some thoughts. If you smell anything dead, don't check it out. Stay away from tall grass, thick brush/willows, dense timber and berry patches. Most of the grizzly bears are above or near timberline now feeding on grubs but I've seen plenty of sign near the berries (rivers, streams) lately. Bow ...

Re: The madness in Wyoming
Cody was busy for sure. I have a friend who drives from Meeteetse to Cody for work in the morning and she said she counted over 500 cars headed south and not one other in her lane going north---that's about a thirty mile stretch of road. Best thing here was I went home from work during the eclipse a...

Re: Winchester Model 74
I have had the best luck fixing stocks with Elmer's wood glue and stock pins---if you are willing to try it again, it might work if you want to keep the original stock. The stock pins are brass, but they can be covered if you are picky. I also drill small holes to allow the glue to fill them and als...

Re: Lee "Quick Trim"
I like the quick trim and use it for some rifles I don't shoot as much. About ten years ago, I bought a Gracey and set it up for 223 only. It trims and chamfers both at the same time. I can easily do 300 to 500 cases in an hour. Downside is it's hard to adjust and change cartridges on. So, last year...

Re: Anybody here between DEN and Big Sky
Many of us here in Wyoming wish Jackson was not even part of the state. Not sure what you are looking for in the way of camping----RV, tent or other, but Jackson will be very crowded, high cost and over rated. If you can be more specific about what kind of camping you want to do, I can give you some...

Re: Capitol Reef National Park, Utah.
Great area, I've spent several vacations in that area---it is not far from where I lived in SW Wyoming at the time. I'm a geologist and easily entertained in areas like that, so take this with that in mind. Green River has a great dinosaur dig not far out of town and the Powell Museum is worth seein...
