My dad had one briefly. Probably the roughest bolt action I have ever worked. He had to run the bolt back and forth with grinding compound to make it tolerable. A friend wanted it more so it went down the road. I personally wouldn’t give much at all for it. It’s not on the same level of quality as a...

The Browning BAR was quite popular with hunters that run deer with dogs in eastern NC. My dad had a few over the years along with the Remington autos. He switched to bolt actions in the 80s. Seen other hunters make the switch too. I knew a hunter with a short Trac BAR years ago and it was downright ...

I could see cheaper guns if they are utilitarian and are sold in high volume. This thing is too gimmicky, it’s not going to be a Wrangler, Glock, 870 Express, etc. I would rather pack a 5 shot 38 any day.

Pull a 22 bullet from a case and push it down the bore from the muzzle. It should pick up the end of the brass case and push it right out. OPS Will not the bullet be under case size that way? 22 s,l,lr bullets are same as od of the case. It should catch it. I would probably put a patch on a brush f...

Re: am I exaggerating 44 mag recoil
My very first shot with a firearm at seven years old was a H&R 20 gauge. The stock was too long and it kicked my skinny little bicep so hard I cried. I didn’t shoot again until it was shortened and the only with a lot of “pressure” from the old man. Once I did and peppered a half pint milk carto...

I think it is much more well behaved in a rifle than a handgun but I was used to 30-06 bolt actions and the like before I got into 44. In handguns I was more used to 40, 357, 38, 45 auto. Re: am I exaggerating 44 mag recoil
Small light carbine with a hard curved butt. Fairly stout loads. For perspective you are firing loads that are above 38-55 ballistics and getting into 375 Win territory in a carbine built for the likes of 44 WCF. Probably manageable for a while but over time that punch can build up. A pad will help ...

I shot a snake through the head from underneath with a Daisy 922 long ago. It was lights out. That was a 22 pellet maybe shy of 600fps. That rifle would kill rabbits too but not enough for possums and such. I tend to leave snakes alone now unless they are in place that poses a danger. Then a bush ax...

Never heard a 44 called a small caliber before. The point of the thread isn’t to use a marginal tool for a job, but recognizing that the often dismissed 44 rimfire had useful ballistics comparable or exceeding many current nonmagnum handgun rounds. Surely it is not a powerful rifle round even by sin...

Those ballistics are about what a 10mm does in a pistol and about what standard 44 sp should do in a rifle. Certainly not a high powered rifle from the 1890s til now or even a buffalo rifle of its era, but pretty good to have on the farm or horse I would think.

How about a fast twist 270 Win that can handle those heavy bullets for the new 6.8? 30-06 is always a sound versatile choice to have around. 6.5-06, 280 AI, 338-06, 9.3x62 would all be interesting to play with. 308 is fine too probably my favorite for hunting. Truth is if you put 9 mm, 38, 357, 10mm, 44 Sp, and 45 auto in a blender with a caveat to fit double stack duty pistols and single stack subcompacts in 1990 you get the 40.
