Great picture. I really like the breeching on his saddle. I wonder if the bottom part is rawhide or some woven fiber. The braided part may be horse hair---or maybe human hair. He looks well fed, rugged and ready for war for sure. The only rifle to pack on a horse is a levergun......it's just fitting.

Yes, we called them "gitter guns". They mounted on a stake that could be pounded in the ground or strapped to a post, some were brass, some were steel. They had a trip wire for bait and fired a 12 gauge. Very wicked for sure. They would disintegrate a mouse.

The one I have has a piece of spring steel on the rings that snaps it in place when the scope is in use. Does yours have that piece of spring steel? The magazine I took the picture of was advertised as an "extended" 760 mag. It is one of the newer aftermarket ones with the plastic base. From what I can see it is very similar to your 742 mag with respect to the placement of the magazine catch. The one I have may be narrower in the front...

Not sure what velocity they run as I've never chronographed them, but I like Unique and Trailboss. The both fill up and I've never had any issues I noticed with position.

Certainly looks like the wolf tracks I see around here, size wise---I'm certain it's a canine. Keep your dogs close if you have one, the wolves around here (Wyoming, Idaho, Montana) kill every dog they run onto---even the hounds folks run lions (cougars) with. Thanks Nath, I'm going to start paying more attention---I generally only hunt them in Oct and Nov as they lose their fat and good condition pretty quickly around here starting in Dec and Jan, so I'll wait until next year for a definite test...HA!
