Frankly, I'd stick to 5744 or SR4759 or BLACK... :wink: I'll agree 110% with your recommendation of XMP5744 and SR4759 ! I left out the shotgun aspect of the thing ! My first shorguns were single barrel H&R's and Iver Jonson's . When they deemed me ready for more then a single barrel I gravitated to Parker's , Smith's and Fox's with a couple British guns thrown in for good measure ! I was never allowed to purchase...

I purchased a pair last year at an auction in Virginia !

Paid $450 for the 256 with an extra mag and $400 for the 30 Carbine .

Not something I ever really went looking for . But they fit nicely in my Marlin accumulation .

I have an XLR rifle in each caliber they've made so far and to be honest I've never noticed the hanger being loose or tight on any of mine .
I just take them out the box mount a scope and shoot ! Then kill a deer and put them away .

I had originally asked my local dealer to get me both of these ! He called Davidson's and was on their list !

Later I asked him to remove himself from the list which he did ! I like these but I'm glad I freed up the money to be used for a pair of 338 Marlin Express rifles :wink:

Having spent a fair amount of time looking at Big Bore conversions in the last 3 or 4 years . My own personal preference would be to take a Marlin 1895 and make it into a 50 Alaskan . The .338 ME ballistics can be duplicated with the old .33 Winchester, a cartridge that has 106 years of proven performance on most North American big game. What will be interesting is watching to see how many of those new rounds will still be in Marlin's (or anybody's) lineup in a few short years. But who knows. Thats not true !

The Marlin Model 1892's and 92's that are 32 caliber are tube fed !

And yes if you change the firing pins they will shot either rimfire or centerfire .
