Re: OT--Humor--101 Uses For A Dead Cat

I read that book years ago. Really enjoyed it. A co-worker and I came up with a bunch more ideas of how to use a dead cat and sent them to the author telling him they were for inclusion in "Another 101 Uses for a Dead Cat". The guy very courteously responded with a thank you and assured us...

And you get to buy a horse too!

The rig she is wearing is for mounted shooting. I like your attitude about buying more guns. But then, who needs an excuse for that?

A 25-35 Ackley Improved in a 94 can be a real performer. Don't have P. O.s book in front of me right now but you might want to look at it's ballistics.

Re: My 86 Winchester 45-90

Yeah, the soot builds up quickly. Black powder cartridge rifle shooters blow at least 3 breaths through the bore with a blow tube so the moisture will soften the fouling. In my rifle, the rifling is not very deep. I guess it was made for jacketed bullets. It's still not very shiny either. Lead bulle...

My 86 Winchester 45-90

Here is a picture of my 1886 Winchester in 45-90. The group was shot over the chronograph while working up a hunting load. 300 grain JHP over 30 grains of 5744. I tried shooting ffg at first but was only good for the first couple of shots then started wandering up and left. By the fifth shot, it cou...

Find your local SASS club and join them for some really stressful fun. You'll not only learn to run a lever gun fast and accurate but a pair of SAAs and a shotgun as well. Well, I guess it is simulated stress but you know what I mean.

My 1886 is from 1916 and it too is in 45-90. I shot a lot of ffg and a 300 grain cast bullet but could not get it shoot a good 5 shot group. The first 2 would be to point of aim but then start to wander up and left. Finally went to 5744 (30 grains duplicates black powder ballistics) and it was much ...

Loading gates do not have the serial no. on them. That is a bin no. and is repeated on the frame, under the trigger guard. Barrels and cylinders haven't been serialized since before 1900.

The rifling in the barrel should have little rounded lands with wide grooves between them. From what you describe I would guess that it's just the way it should be. The ivories should fit very well with no overhangs anywhere. Do they have the Colt medallions ? One piece or two ? The grip screw may b...

I have a 92, made in 92, that is a 32-20. When I got it, the bore was shot out so I had a Redman's liner installed then had Nate Kiowa Jones get it to feed properly, (very smooth now). The original bbl markings are still there and only an expert can tell it's been relined. I really don't think the l...

The post type (patridge) is much more precise than any bead. I regularly use an old Redfield Sourdough, that has a brass insert in the top to pick up light. It really works. My experience with the .270 is very similar. Shooting the 130 grain Sierra in one of 2 Ruger No.1As. About half of the deer ran a long way and one 150+ class just ran away with his right front leg flopping up over his back at every bound. Didn't worry about it because the hold was right where I want...

Judging from the other gun's grips, my guess is Hy Hunter. Look at the shape of the trigger guard. It's sure not a Colt. Just happened to have 1908 model laying here to compare it to. I think the bolt screw end just doesn't show in the picture mostly due to the nickel plate. I remember her from chee...

Just be sure NOT to use smokeless solvents (Hoppe's No. 9, Bullseye etc.) on any nickel gun. They will all make the nickel come off. They were formulated to dissolve jacket material from the barrel and the nickel usually has a thin copper plate under it. The first gen Colts were shot with black powd...

I've been loading the black powder for around 55 years now. You need bullets lubed with specific black powder lube (read SPG). You can make your own from toilet bowl rings with a little olive oil added but it appears you don't cast your own. The powder needs to be placed in the case with a drop tube...

I have owned at least two of the Marlin 1895s and had no trouble with them. The micro-groove barrel even shot lead bullets well.
