Re: gunshow report
We had one this weekend. Found some new 35 Rem. brass and some once fired 32-20 and a smattering of 307win and 30-30. Sorely tempted by an 1886 in 40-65 calling me, but light on $$. Lots of older leverguns and even a modern Marlin 375win and one of the 410 shotguns. Three or four 1895 Marlins in 45-...

I would say definitely, the barrel has been cut down. Add that it looks like a hole has been drilled in the bolt stop notch of the cylinder, what for I have no idea, unless it was for pressure testing of loads, but that chamber in the cylinder has been rendered useless. Then you have the missing lan...

So, they will shoot feral cattle because of damage to the range, but round up feral horses because of damage to the range, and spend billions feeding/sheltering thousands of them. Makes sense from Gov't.

Re: What if- 55.6 in .223?
If rebarreled with a match type throat, then using 5.56 ammo, I could see where you might break a bolt because of the gun being overgassed/too much port pressure. If a tight throat, shouldn't be any problems going with a 5.56 throat to help lower pressures. The Wylde chamber would be a good option a...

Sixgun--I hear about the rifle cartridges in the bolt guns. That said, I am one of them. I do have a 308 xp100 and a 358 barrel for it somewhere too. Muzzle brakes on both barrels. I still enjoy shooting the 308 even though I will be 70 this year. Did make a 44/284 for IHMSA. That was a handfull, lo...

The 357max. in a rifle is quite an eye opener and the 460 S&W in my Ruger #1 is no slouch either. Many of the stories I have heard about the Ruger Maximums mirror what Sixgun has stated. The erosion was self limiting when using the gun as it was designed. Not for pushing lightweight bullets as f...

An alternative is to send the rifle back to Mr. Taylor and have him run the reamer in ten thousandths deeper. Send a few cases along so he can set the headspace with your particular cases.

He has the right idea of taking off metal from the front of the rim. Gives proper headspace and you don't have to re-cut the primer pocket and thin the brass around the flash hole. A drill press and a new sharp file might work for you. .010" should go fairly quickly

C.T.---Sounds like you are talking about the 450 Bushmaster. Its based on the 284 Win. Another one close would be a 45 Raptor, which is based on the 308 win, but 1.8" long and cylindrical. Basically a rimless 460 S&W. You can use 45 Colt dies to load it.

Re: New LEVERGUN cartridge?
I will bet that you are right about that!!! Now, if the case was designed with a smaller rim, say .473" in diameter so a regular 308 bolt face would work, then maybe it could have been put in an inexpensive bolt gun. That should give roughly .025" per side rim diameter, over case diameter....

Only drawback to the 360 buckhammer in a bolt gun, is the rimmed cartridge. Don't think Remington will bring back the 788 , but maybe Savage could the 340. Other than those, I cannot think of a bolt gun that would handle a rimmed cartridge as the Buckhammer.
