What Griff said. I've just always loaded the same charge of 231 and a 200 grain H&G. Couldn't tell any difference but I did get rid of them because I load on a Dillon progressive machine and it was too much of a hassle keeping them separate and changing out the priming system.

Beautiful buck and rifle 86er. The 300 Savage should be almost equal to the .308 so I too think maybe the bullet is too stoutly jacketed for it's velocity. Try some 150s, they should give you more velocity, flatter trajectory and expand better for you.

What Sixgun said. Trim your brass to all the same length and seat and crimp separately. The greatest thing that Lee sells is their factory crimp die. I regard it as essential for the "dashes", 32-20, 38-40, 44-40. I load them all on the Dillon 550 and seldom have a problem.

I agree with Mike and Driftwood. Loading 44-40 is easy if you watch what you're doing. I've been loading it for at least 30 years and am now using a Dillon 550 for all loads, (mostly ffg). Get the Marlin, ignore the medallion and just wait and see if it bothers you. Then you can always just replace the butt stock if it's necessary.
I shoot an original Winchester 92 in 32-20 which I like very much. There is almost no recoil and I use the heavier 115 grain bullet.
