Re: Sears/AyA Model 433 SxS
Thank you all for the kind comments. Over the weekend the Missus and I went out back and busted a few clays over the hayfield. This old AyA will just disintegrate clays at 30-35 yards with the Mod barrel and 10-12 yards further with the 'extra' Full barrel. I say 'extra' because the Full step on my ...

Sears/AyA Model 433 SxS
I picked up on an old Sears-imported AyA Model 433 12 gauge side by side, marketed elsewhere in the world as the AyA 106. These were one grade up from the basic bird gun with chopper lump barrels, Greener cross bolt & side clips. It has extractors as opposed to ejectors. Metal finish is very nic...

I've had three Romanians over the years and all were reliable. Re-cutting the crown helps them a bunch, a longer stock & better trigger in makes them lots more comfortable and decent sights make them easier to shoot well. For me the best combination is Zukhov furniture, the Red Star 2-stage trig...

I've handled a couple Bill, but haven't shot one. The two-inch 38 RIA's I've looked at appeared to be better finished than the 4"/rubber gripped one. There's enough Colt DNA in the design to make them likeable and they obviously shoot OK to 15 yards. If small pistol primers weren't scarce/insan...

I like to hit what I am aiming at and a gun that won't zero is very troubling to me. Fortunately, most 1911s and Smith & Wesson fixed sight guns shoot right where I look (not all, but most). Single action revolvers are different. Some do and some simply do not. I hear you. I can't abide a gun t...

^ I'm with Jim on this. There are enough 454s in Alaska alone to keep the cartridge alive for longer than it will matter to me. Right now the firearms & ammo industry is focused om 9mm/AR/box-fed bolt action stuff. This will change one day but it won't bee soon enough for the throwbacks among us.

Pillar if your early RIA came with GI sights, it should have the GI rear dovetail or something very close to it. That's considerably smaller than Novaks rear sights (for the 'Novak cut') so I'll bet you did have some filing to do. If the tenon of the front sight you removed was 0.055", it's def...

GI Colts prior to the A1 used a small, basically round tenon. They've been collectible a long time and nobody changes the sights on those. The standard 1911A1 military and commercial Colts, on through the original Series 70, are milled to accept sights with a rectangular .058" tenon. Many copie...

Don’t worry about the slow twist - even a 1 in 38” twist will stabilise a 300gr bullet as long as it’s a large diameter (mine likes 0.433 cast pills). we have a marlin 44 mag in the family and that 13:38 barrel WILL NOT stabilize 300Gr bullets. some will, some won't. i still don't know why the vari...

Here's what I would try first; but don't do it if you're not 100% comfortable with it. I would, very carefully with long-nose pliers, ease a slip fit wooden dowel in the bore and hold the barrel straight up. Mark the dowel at exactly the muzzle with a pencil. That will at least tell you whether or n...

A 357 carbine has its own charm for reasons obvious to this group. One of my favorite 357 loads was Federal’s old 357A* a 158 grain 357 jacketed softpoint which averaged 1729 fps from a 16” Rossi- more than adequate for deer at wood ranges.
