Early 60's - lived in a rural area, very poor, with my widowed mother, who as a librarian was very tolerant and broad-minded. What little livestock we had to be kept safe, and she didn't like to shoot much, but let me use the little bolt-action .22LR to practice, and I was able to hit a bean can at ...

There isn't any time I don't like a sling, except maybe when I shoot from a rest, if the sling interferes with bedding down the front of the gun in the cradle. I can't see any reason NOT to want a sling otherwise, unless you have a poorly designed floppy, noisy, shiny one on a hunting gun. The only ...

The interesting thing to me is that if you think about that 3-4-5 triangle, and you're sighted in at 500 yards, but shooting at something 300 yards up in the air that is 500 yards from you, yes, the 'range' is actually 500 yards in terms of flight time, and it is the TIME which allows gravity to pul...

Rifle=Ruger 10/22 Pistol=Ruger Mk I,II,or III Yep. I consider the stock 10/22 a 'carbine' though. Like others have said, it really depends on the gun's intended use. In general, I'll accept trading off 'handiness' for accuracy, and since leverguns and semiautos are so much handier, I'd be ok with 5 shots in 3-4" off a bench at 100 yards for them (I'm not a good enough standing shot to 'meas...

Goats will self-nurse, and you often have to use 'teat-tape' to prevent it. Ironically, they will OFTEN refuse to nurse their newborns, so you have to milk them, and bottle feed the babies. PITA if you ask me, but wife likes goats.

If I didn't already have the BEST .22 levergun (see below), I'd probably 'settle' for the Henry, due to the almost-as smooth action, and if I could forgive the Marlin's funny-looking little side-exposed bolt, I suppose I'd make do with one, but they are awfully long and gangly for a .22LR.
