Re: More Confederates in my blood
The interesting thing I am finding, chasing these ghosts through Find-a-Grave links, is reading about the lives my Confederates led after the war. Here's an example, a sketch of great-great Uncle James, the one shot in the head, written for his grandson who died at 21 and lies in Mt. Olivet in Forth...

I'll be volunteering at the Sweetwater Rifle and Pistol Club show next weekend. It is held in conjunction with the Rattlesnake Roundup right next door. I am told it is a good one. The next one in Abilene will be in June.

More Confederates in my blood
Just this morning while tracing ancestors I ran across a new-to-me great-great uncle, Matt Marshall Hague, sergeant in the 44th Tennessee Infantry, killed on Oct. 8, 1862, in the fierce fight at Perryville, KY. He was just 19. My great uncle Frank Wood with the First Wisconsin under Starkweather was...

Re: For all you mule skinners.......
Well hell, I don't know if I even want dinner. My late Uncle Paul was a fine horseman but his love was mules, and I got to ride his Abigail on a Decker pack saddle with hay-bailing twine stirrups in the Eagle Cap Wilderness of far northeast Oregon many years ago. It was and remains a religious exper...

Re: Looking at a Kimber 1911
Jason, I had a Kimber that I carried at work at the shooting range for a few months. It shot wonderfully and had no issues whatsoever. I quit carrying it because it was a bit heavier than was comfortable for daily wear, and I hated to see it banged around as I hopped in and out of trucks, tractors a...

Thanks fellas. In the larger-bore sixguns I have pretty much lost all interest in jacketed bullets, so the cylinder throat dimensions assume greater importance. Most accurate Blackhawk caliber?
Wondering if those here who have extensive experience with Blackhawks in .357, .41, .44 Special/.44 Magnum. and .45 Colt have any thoughts on which caliber was easiest to get accuracy out of. I know this has much to do with the individual revolver, cylinder throat diameters and the infamous Ruger ba...

Well, I would only have a couple of hours to convince my PCP to prescribe a single dose of Valium/Xanax/Ativan, and then would have to drive the 45 miles home right after. That fire is now at 1,075,000 acres and has run all the way east across the Oklahoma border and only 5 percent contained. And more red flag conditions are due this weekend. Praying for those firefighters and all in harm's way.

EG, your Jones underlever hammer 10 single sounds most intriguing! A 10-gauge black powder load has a real boom to it. As to the 1887s, I would be very tempted when the new Cimarrons become available with the 26-inch hunting barrel. The design can be finicky, but when it works it is just amazing. ht...
