Re: I drove out to Del Rio this morning to visit with the Sheriff

Piller, years ago another fellow on Marlinowners , I split a Midway order of 1,000 ; 405 gr Rem bullets (45/70). I still have quite a bunch of them. Anyway, my present load is a bit warm (50 gr H322), so I need to work up a bit milder hunting load. My Marlin 45/70 shoots the tightest groups with RL...

Re: I drove out to Del Rio this morning to visit with the Sheriff

I worked in Del Rio back in '96-97 and have heard about the changes. Only recall eating at Crosby's once, the crowd I hung with preferred Johnny's. I do remember a shooting in the alley while we were leaving one night, so it wasn't all happiness and light even then. Used to make a quick run into Acu...

My first one was an original large frame Vaquero .44 that I bobbed to 4", round butted and scalloped the recoil shield & loading gate. Made it smaller and handier, but it still wasn't light. Lipsey's made me retire that one when they brought us the .44 Special Flattop. Mine got a SBH hammer...

Yep, about the same time they discontinued the 220 grain .375. Can't help with the .348, but Vollmer makes a 220/375 that's the spittin' image of the Hornady. My own episode with this type of situation was some years back after I loaded the last of my Speer half-jacket 44 bullets. I stopped at a sho...

Shucks, Jim. I had a Jennings at Holiday I'd have given you if I'd known. Needs a bit of tuning up (had a hiccup or two each magazine full) but I was scaring the 100 meter rams with it when it went bang - more accurate than it has a right to be. That load is quite a bit in a light gun like that. But that bullet carries really well at long range. That's the thing that still makes me scratch my head, how well the Keith bullet flies at extended range - especially when you compare it's BC to the average rifle bullet. As much as I like a 45 Col...

JdeF, I think you're on the right track regarding ideas on pressure for the 45. Is it fact or fiction that the 95 action eventually stretches ? I think the '95 receiver is actually a bit too elastic, hence the change from the early flatside configuration on them, but bolt setback is the bigger problem. I had a 1912 vintage 1895 in 30'06 for a number of years. I thought the '95...

Dunno that I'd go so far as brilliant, but the ergonomics are excellent, and I like a drop point with a bit of belly. I did have to rework the edge bevels, but that's probably more personal preference than anything else.
