New battery and overcast sky.

Re: Fast gun?

maybe just maybe your Redhawk is just the perfect storm of barrel dia, throat, forcing cone , barrel cylinder gap and everything is just right giving you that exactly right combo. I measured the throats and they are a slip fit for a .430 diameter bullet. Actually bigger than I thought but they seem...

Re: Fast gun?

I don’t shoot with anyone else. I just use my range on the ranch.

I’ll change the battery again and try it out on a different day and compare with something I know is consistent

I think I’ll load up some warm 2400 loads and see.

Sounds like false numbers Scott. Sky screens? Bright sun or overcast? I got 1820±/‐ with 210gr 41 mags with lilgun out of 20" and questioned the load, another test on a different day showed the same. I'd say test them on a different day. Sky screens and bright sunshine. The odd thing is that t...

That’s why I changed the battery.

This same box of ammo clocked from a 20 inch Marlin on October 8, 2023:

1785
1769
1767

This shouldn’t happen. So I changed batteries and backed off another 10 feet or so from the chronograph.

1726

This is still looking strangely high.

Fast gun?

I have a question. Is this even possible? I set up my chronograph to test some loads in a 7.5 inch Super Redhawk. Skeeter loads are consistently clocking 950 fps in my Bowen 4 5/8 inch Blackhawk. So I expected a bit of increase from a 7.5 inch barrel. This load clocked: 1015 999 1005 1022 1009 This ...

I have to shoot something that I can shoot well. My .45 Colt load is probably about the equivalent of my Skeeter load but with a bigger heavier bullet. Both are very comfortable and accurate loads for me and I can hit what I want to or need to with these loads. Bears can be really scary creatures. H...

Re: one shot with a 44 or 45 lever, whats you load

All of my .45 Colt chambered leverguns are on 1866 or 1873 actions.

However, I shot a 270SAA bullet over 8 gr of Unique clean through a big cow and recovered it from the dirt on the other side.

This was from a 4 3/4 inch barrel so it might have a bit more from my leverguns.

Re: Skinner Sights on Marlin 1894 CL.

I fine tune my adjustments on the Skinner and then loctite the sight in place. The one on my Marlin Cowboy hasn’t moved since I sighted it in.

I use the factory front bead for fine adjustment due to range.

I have the sights set for a 158 gr XTP over 14.5 gr 2400 and a small rifle primer.

Could be that the thing I value is ruggedness. The sights on my .30-30 are fixed and haven’t been touched in more than 40 years.

Originally sighted for Winchester 170 gr Silvertips which have long been discontinued.

But it’s close enough to Remington 170 gr Coreloct.

Skinner sights tend to lead to more precise shooting for my uses.

The one I have on my Marlin Cowboy also slips in and out of the saddle scabbard easily without gouging. So I prefer the version with the protective wings

No issue with folks putting whatever they want on their levergun. But how do you put it in the saddle scabbard? This Skinner sight slides into and out of the scabbard easily without snagging and after I put a dab or thread locker on the adjustment screw’s it maintains zero.
