Re: From The Loading Bench
I have a dear friend who seems wrapped up in the end times stuff. I suppose if you lived like that, it could take a lot of stress off of you. But it seems to have the opposite effect. I prefer to go with the theory that I don't know when its coming, but I'm ready to go when it happens. Historically...

Re: From The Loading Bench
It seems to me that we can see what we want to see in almost anything. Whether it is truly there or not. Even the Apostle Paul seemed to think the end of times was near. Of course, our sense of time is not GOD's meaning for time. True! I don't put much stock in predictions about "the end"...

I have never even thought of expansion with 44's and 45's. They start out as big as folks are trying to get the smaller calibers to expand to. I want accuracy, reliability, and penetration. It's best if it shoots all the way through. Thats true to a degree however if the projectiles is not expandin...

Do you handload?
Load some lighter bullets at moderate velocity.
Shoot 500 or so and get your fingers used to the gun and grip.
Then start working up to heavier loads.

John Taffin has a sixgun that a range rod won't drop into the cylinder. The gunsmith said it would never shoot. John took it and tried it anyway and the durn thing shoots tight groups. Why I don't know and neither does he, but he ain't messing with it. Lineup doesn't always tell the whole story.

That is a very useful trick Jim. Thanks for posting it. Kind of reminds me of reading how Elmer Kieth inspected his fired bullets after recovering them from melted snow drifts in the spring. #1 are the dogs.
They are the alert ... the warning signal.
They are the first line of defense ... especially when we are otherwise occupied.
I always felt badly when my dogs did not get to chew on some part of an intruders anatomy.

Re: accuracy difference between calibres?
If you read Dr. E. B. Mann's book "THE BULLET'S FLIGHT" you will note that a lot of inaccuracy problems come from between the time the bullet exits the cartridge until it is fully engaged in the rifling. Given a good leade and good rifling in the barrel, the next large issue is the muzzle....

I shoot 2 of these maybe once every 2 years. They hurt! The rest of the time I shoot 158 gr. cast with 3 gr. Bullseye.
