Re: Question for cannoneers

Gobbler, My concern was over tamping a hot dog bun down harder over the charge. Cannon accidents frequently are the result of an unanticipated charge ignition during the loading sequence. I imagine you are indeed taking all the necessary precautions. Also, what folks tend to forget, is that when the...

Re: Question for cannoneers

Not trying to sound like I'm preaching here, but I'd suggest some research on cannon SAFETY. Here is a source of some good information:
http://www.artillerymanmagazine.com/safety_rules.html

There is enough potential energy in that much black powder to injure several people......be careful.

Why do the coffee pots taper to be narrower at the top, while buckets taper to be narrower at the bottom? Just curious.

Looks like that bronc got some serious vertical lift !! Notice that from the position of the reins and the bandana, this pair appears to be on their way back down to earth. Probably was not a soft landing. Great photo.....thanks.

Re: OT - Currently Reading...

Not to hijack the topic - but the progressive lenses work great if fitted properly. When looking through a scope with your eye at the wrong distance from the lens, the field of sharp view will be very small in diameter. It's the same for progressives. The lens must be in correct alignment to the eye...

Re: OT - ? for you .243 Win. Owners.

I've shot lots of deer with 100 grain remingtons from my savage 110 ....no problems. I have been hunting the last few years with a early 1900's vintage winchester 94 in 30-30. Open sights and aging eyes make it challenging & lots of fun. No survivors yet.

I once ordered a Lee reloading press from Midway. When it arrived, it did not have any threads cut to accept reloading dies. Nicely put together and painted with a fine finish, but no way to actually use to silly thing. Lee did replace it at no charge, but it does make you worry about their ability ...

My wife and I refer to our Honda Odyssey as our "all-terrain minivan". We do indeed take it where some folks wouldn't take their shiny trucks. Hasn't failed us yet. The 4X4s that are bought seem to be often more "want" than "need".

Re: Its a knife what have I got

I agree with the probability of Mexican origin. That knife looks pretty typical of knives sold in the bordertowns of Mexico. I recall seeing lots of those type for sale in Nuevo Laredo, usually with highly tooled leather scabbards. My brothers brought home similar blades of letter-opener size. Nicel...

What does the "35" mean in 25-35 Winchester ?

I can't find a reference as to the meaning of the "35" in 25-35 Winchester. Of course the "25" refers to bullet diameter. Maybe the blackpowder loading? Anyone know? My Grandfather used a model 94 saddle ring carbine in 25-35 Winchester for all his deer hunting needs in south Tex...

Ditto the "never too late to start" comments. I play a Breedlove 12-string at church (fine guitars those Breedloves). I recommend going to one of the "Guitar Center" chain stores where you can sit down & fool with a wide variety of brands and types. Look for one that feels ri...

I have had one on an old Charter Arms "Off Duty" for years. Works well, but .... the swell on the right side holds my trigger finger at an odd angle to the trigger. Works OK, just feels different. No problem with the revolver staying put where you want it, but mine would feel a bit more co...

Sorry to hear of the difficulties with the Rossi. I highly recommend sending it to Stevesgunz. He will work magic on it. My Rossi 357 was rough when new, but after Steve's work, it is slicker than my Marlin. My kids had a great time busting crawfish mounds with it out at the range. It's still my son...

Weekend stop in Fort Worth

While in the Fort Worth area for the weekend, I got a chance to stop in at the "Cheaper Than Dirt" retail outlet. Hadn't been by there before. Not too big, but lots of stuff to drool over. Ammunition supply was thin (as commonly seen), but plenty 30-30 ammo for us levergun types.

The exceptions are those few that are kept very handy for quick access. You might want to check the fine print on your insurance...
