Re: What a near detonation looks like and message for DeFres
Canuck Bob, thanks for asking. Yes, the powder in the funnel is some of the powder that was in the case but broke apart. The handloader deviated from the internet recipe and changed the primer to a milder one. Almost a very bad move in this case (no pun intended). Mic has a lot of lab time under hi...

The twist on my Win 94 32 Sp is a 1in16 as measured with a cleaning rod. My research on the round and its manufacturing quirks has revealed some interesting reports. There have been runs of factory rifle, Marlins I believe, that had .316-.318 groove diameter. I keep looking for reports of Winchester...

Cowboy T, could you elaborate a bit. The quotes leave me wanting more details. Is he implying that a different primer would make this load safe or the load itself was unsafe? I understand most reloaders differentiate detonation as small charges of fast powder in a large volume case. SEE is a small c...

That would be a dandy rifle cartridge combo. I had a #1 Tropical 375 H&H years ago. They are special rifles. However I see no need to load one above a modern Marlin level load. If I wanted real power I would opt for a 375, a real good power cartridge that is amazingly rangy. A Marlin level 45-70...

The most important issue with a 270 is stout bullets as heavy as possible. I think if a guy is stretching the range a 30-06 is much better. Moose do seem to give up the ghost easier than an elk.
