I believe Wyatt threatened to turn Ike's head into a canoe with a Smith and Wesson in Tombstone. Clint Eastwood uses a number of period pieces in his films. I enjoy seeing the "mistakes" as a point of hollywood movie making. I recall one contrail in and old cowboy movie. The reality is the...

Ed - good to see you here. I think it is actually a precursor to much more muscular rounds and with todays slower powders it is a good choice for some specialty purposes and some could use it for an all around cartridge.

pebow, tested five different loads between the 22" SS and 26" Cowboy low velocity of the string was always higher with the 26" 30 to 92 fps but the high wasn't always higher but could be by 100 fps. You just have to see by the individual load.

To the extent that the 308 was also developed by the Govt with Winchester taking the civilian branding the 358 and 243 are semi in that category.

Yes but it was a wildcat not a factory round. I would like to see you pick up a 25-35 and test it's effectiveness on foxes and the like and load it with light bullets for your other work.

47.5 gr of 4198, 1995 fps with a Remington 300 in a 22" 1895SS with the Ballard style rifling. ES was 98 fps. 51 grains should produce something in the 2100 fps range in my rifle. Maybe a little more.

Use 57 grains of RL 19 with 130s and 55 with 150s - great load in 4 different rifles. I think whatever bullet shoots best in your rifle will be fine.

There was a thread on this but it might have been on the old forum. Great combo for all around light medium work. I have a bolt in a 20 in barrel and it is a great rifle. 380 is the powder for all weights in mine. Approximately 1000 rds through in likely more than 50 loads. Make that 78 loads +/-, 1...

Sounds like you are looking for a scopable 348. On a weaker platform.

Maybe you just want a 338 Federal.

358 Win in a BLR comes close.

35 Whelen or 338/06 in an 1895 Winchester.

Sometimes words sound one way but mean something else. Penultimate for instance is often used as "the best" but means - next to last.

But here, I suppose, words can have an insider meaning.
