Re: Good old flattop
Odd man out here. I have an old 44 mag flattop that someone cut to 4 5/8. I like the Pachmayer grips and shoot much better with them than standard grips. Seeing the sights became an issue and I was not accurate enough to hunt with it. Really breaking tradition and it now has a red dot. A gun I reall...

Re: The 25 Calibers
Thank you all for your input....greatly appreciated. A Remington 14 seems like a good idea in 25 Remington. I have been wanting a takedown that I can put in a pack out of sight until I get back into the mountains. A carbine would be good but I can cut a rifle down for a lot less than the carbines go...

The 25 Calibers
Contemplating a new old rifle. A 25-20 in a Winchester 43 would be fun. Also like the Remington 25 in 25-20 or a 14 in 25 Remington. Have never had either or any 25-20 or 25 Remington. i have brass and dies for the 25 Remington but nothing for the 25-20. Anyone have any experience with these. I see ...

Brings back memories ...thank you! I grew up just like this in Maine traveling the woods with my 22 rifle. Brooks, streams, swamps and bogs. Re: Recoil as I age
One thing I do more now than before is dry fire training. I take guns out for a walk and pick targets at various distances. Doing this with pistols with red dots has taught me lots about how I grip affects my holding and follow thru. Seeing what happens when the trigger breaks has made me a better s...

I have toned down my loads too. I am 64 next month and still hunting with handguns, In the 45 Bowen Redhawk 10.0 of HS-6 and a 250 xtp work nicely for me. It is a heavy gun and the grips spread the recoil nicely. The Bowen 41 mag I now use 210 xtp's instead of the 265 grain cast I used to use. While...

Great story! Love Hamilton Bowen's work. Years ago after reading his book I had min build me a 41 magnum. It was a duplicate of one in the book in the lightweight gun chapter. Built on a 357 frame with an extra long cylinder, 4 inch barrel, scalloped and his custom rear and front express sights. Als...

Great cartridge. I have 3. One Marlin Glenfield. One Marlin 336 and a Remington 760. Favorite load is 41 grains of 748 with a 200 grain bullet. Got them out this morning with an alternate method. Many may know this but just in case some don't I did it with a heavy duty drill press. Put in a pin size drill bit and used some wood to make a block. They came out hard but it moved them where pounding with a punch did not.

Just became the caretaker of this fine gun in 30-30. Fired it a few times and now the firing pin is broken. Have never replaced one before. The bolt is like the 1893 and not the 336. Big fan here. Had two but just sold one. Felt like I was cheating on my Dad's 348 when I used it. Grew admiring my Dad's and I shoot it offhand as well or better than all my other rifles. He passed in 1999 but I think he is still helping me steady it.
