Re: Dangerous Situation
the old Ruger is back in business. Just got done shooting it. I pulled the bullet on the squib load and there was no powder. My fault as it is one of my handloads. First time in 40 plus years of reloading it has happened. I always look in the case before seating a bullet but must have missed one. I ...

Re: Dangerous Situation
It is a squib load Sarge. Thank you for the idea to measure it. I was not thinking it could be that because there was just a click and no sign of a primer ignition. Now to clear it. Never have had one but I assume I need to try and push it back instead of try and pull it. I will need to figure out a...

Went down to the range on the back 40 to do some testing and sighting in. Have a 2011 in 45 that was a bit unreliable and put in a new extractor and recoil spring. That tested well and seems to be fixed. It will take a few hundred rounds though to be sure. Had to adjust the sights on my Bowen Redhaw...

Re: Scoping a levergun
Back in the early 70's my Dad's eyesight got to the point he could not see the peep sights well enough. He had a scout scope set up (2X Redfield) done to his Model 71 348. The eye piece of the scope almost touches the barrel so it picks up a target even quicker than the peep sight...for me anyway. I...

I have a custom stocked Winchester 88 that is very accurate that i like very much. It does however change its point of impact occasionally throughout the year. Any tips on what to do? Screw tension? Great guns. I had a 4 3/4 a few years back. Had an excellent trigger and the grip frame handles recoil very well. I shot two nice bucks with mine. They are exceptionally well built and very enjoyable. I shot 300 grain xtps mostly over H110...38 grains if I remember correctly.

Thanks for all the input. my Dad's 71 does have an old Redfield and I have other Redfield's and Lyman's on other guns. Love those old sights but have not stumbled across one for the new 71. Fixed the Williams with a piece of an .009 feeler gauge. That will do till I find an older Lyman or Redfield....

i am on my second Williams Foolproof receiver sight that has the same issue as the first. The ghost ring that the aperture screws into wobbles slightly for and aft slightly. I also hunt the Maine timber and really like the pistol red dots when mounted on a rifle. They add only a couple ounces. You don't have to worry about eye relief, scope cuts, and can be mounted either close to the eye or further down the gun. They are extremely fast and easier to keep clear in the s...

Red dot sights work best for me. Easy on the eyes and very accurate. With a little practice they are faster for me than irons. Most of mine are milled for the red dot but my 1911 is a dovetail mount. They are very reliable and strong. Sage Dynamics Youtube videos have a lot of good info on them....

The only double action I still have is this Bowen 45 Colt. I generally shoot 250 or 300 XTP's with 2400 0r HS-6. It now wears some custom target grips I found on Ebay. The grips are a bit bulky but improve my shooting with this gun.

It is a red dot...Trijicon RMR. EGW makes a mount that fits in the scope mount holes. Very quick and accurate for me. I did not buy it. The stock had been whittled down and was way to low for me. It was a takedown which is what I wanted. I want a takedown so I can carry it in a pack while woods loafing. Would also consider a Remington 141 or 14 pump. I might go 35 Remington on one of those though....
