Re: Do you clean your guns after each time you shoot?
Depends on when I am going to shoot it again. I clean all my guns that have been fired at the end of hunting season. I wipe down the outside with an oily rag after every use.

Re: watch your six gentlemen
Don’t be so hard on yourself. You kept your Wits about you and rendered aid to a wounded person. You may very well have saved his life with the tools you had to work with. I’d say you earned yourself a Macguyver award at the least. The bell rang and you answered it admirably. Not a lot of people can...

If you believe our DEC none but at least 2 killed by coyote hunters have been dna confirmed to be wolves. In reality we have a small but building population.

This is something that needs to be taught in our schools. We were always taught who the signers were but never what happened to them.

Re: 358 win
I have a takedown BLR in 358 winchester and it kills all out of proportion to its size. Never had an animal hit with it go more than 20 yards. I bought it after having a much too close encounter with a 450 lb wild boar. I have shot it at targets out to 300 yards where it holds 4-5 inch groups. The b...

The notch in the rear sight on my MS 1905 was so small I had a hard time seeing the front bead in it. I took it to my gunsmith and had him rework it into a wide shallow V express style and added a gold filled centerline. Viola what a difference!

I have found over the years that the best time to go hunting is when you can. Killed a lot of game in less than optimal or desirable weather.

Re: BLR owners - what scope?
I have a 2x7 Cabelas scope (I believe Meopta made these for cabelas it is an Alaskan model) mounted as low as I could get it. Can’t figure how to attach picture will need to read directions again. I had Neil Jones rework my trigger as it was over 9 lbs from factory. He got it down to 3 lbs which is ...

My brother and I used to ride our bicycles to a hillside dump and shoot rats with our 22 Remington bolt action taking turns until rats stopped showing themselves or we shot our box of bullets. As I recall this was late 60's early 70's and we paid $.49 a box which we got from mowing lawns. That is wh...

Whichever gun is in my hands when I see my quarry. I typically rotate through my guns every season so while it may not be optimal they are all deadly and accurate. I tune my loads for whatever and wherever I will be hunting. Now for bears and boars I may alter the choices. Good hunting.

My 37 deerslayer in 20 gauge made in 1959 iirc had the ring tail forearm and no checks ring and weighed 6lb even. I prefer the looks of the earlier 37's as I believe the fit and finish were better then. I also have a carbine 12 gauge deerslayer made in 1960 that shoots pumpkin ball slugs into 2 1/2&...

Dating a Leoupold scope
I just picked up a JM Marlin 336 in 35 rem that has a 1.5x5 Leoupold vari X Iii scope on it. It has the old style coin operated adjustable turrets. Is there any way to date these to a year of manufacture. The gun was made in 1976. Scope looks like maybe same era but is nice and clear. Turrets didn’t...

Re: Shovels and Rakes and.....
When my kids were young 5 and 7 every Saturday morning we would grab their BB guns and head to the driveway. I had lived the driveway with old railroad ties and the snakes loved them. I would flip the ties and they would shoot the snakes with their BB guns. Both grew up to be crack shots and neither...

I have had Lyme for 4 years now. The 2 best thing you can do if you are an outdoorsy person is treat your clothes with permethrin and check yourself every time you come in from being afield. Re: What's currently your best hunting rifle for your area?
Short answer is the one in my hand. If choosing it depends on a few things. If still hunting in decent weather my Mannlicher Schoenauer model 1905 in 9x56 made in 1921 with 250 grain round nose. If less than decent weather my remington model 14 in 30 rem made in 1920. If bear are also on the menu my...
