I've shot a good dozen deer with a .223. They've been just as dead as ones shot with my 30-06, but there was way less meat damage with the .223.

By the way, I know you wanted that horse to be younger, but I once heard a fellow say that the best horse for kids just learning was at least 20, and if he only has three good legs, he's worth twice as much :lol:

Always head shots. With the .223, we usually tried for behind the ear. With the 30-30 and 30.06, it was forehead.

I had one like that, but it was stamped "Kmart." It was an alright shotgun, and had the feature where both barrels shot if you pulled the back trigger first. It was a no-frills gun that went bang every time you pulled the trigger.

We run a Versatile 150 tractor for feeding all winter long. It is a hydro tractor with four wheel drive. Of course, they haven't been made in a while, but if you find one, it will be within your budget. They are a heck of a tractor.

I use both, but if you cast your own, for every 5 you cast of 200, it is like getting one free as opposed to casting 240s.

I've used 180 grain Hornady XTP .44 bullets in sabots in my Ruger 77/50 blackpowder rifle with good success. The last deer I shot (open sights) was at 126 yards and went down hard.

We have a lot of problems with mice here on the ranch. Keep in mind if you poison them inside, they will probably die inside and then they will smell. We use traps inside and poison outside.

I'd bet money that the seals are so dried out they leak air badly. If you can get those seals replaced, there is very little other that can go wrong.

Looks like a nice setup. I spent last night fixing fence in a new pasture where we'll move the cattle to next week. We won't work the calves for another three weeks, after which we move them to a pasture not connected to our home place. Gotta have good brands on them before they get too far from home!

I think if you go back and look at Optics Planet, there aren't different sizes for the Colts and Rugers. The different numbers are for right and left hand.

I use one of the 1880's for a Ruger Lipsey's .44 special, which has the smaller frame close to the Colt, and it fits well.
