Re: Marlin Conversion .356 Win. 20" bbl/scope mount

Here is something to consider... A 450 Marlin at 42,500 CUP with a case head area of .222 sq in(Area equal Pi times radius squared) has about 9435 lbs of pressure on the breech bolt face which is then transfered to the locking lugs two faces. A 45-70 loaded to 40,000 CUP(straight out of Hodgdons man...

Re: Marlin 1895M 450 Marlin Vee thread OD and thread pitch.

6PT is right...basically...I will trim the case to whatever case lengh is required to keep the 2.65" COL and crimp in the crimp groove on whatever bullet I happen to pick...the case length can vary from about 2.20 to almost 2.4"depending on the bullet. I have a Browning BLR in 450 Marlin a...

Marlin 1895M 450 Marlin Vee thread OD and thread pitch.

Anyone out there have this information...I keep asking but no one knows for sure or isn't telling.

Thanks

OT - My "switch barrel Marlin 336" 45-70 barrel is fitted, does go bang and is now in the lathe waiting for the reamer to take it to 458 Amer x 2.25". Hurry up and wait.

Re: How Big is Big Enough?

I pretty much agree with Griz having done the same thing...and have probably killed more deer sized game with a 22 LR than with anything else. COSteve, LK, 86er all have good thoughts and lean the same way as I do. I think the concept of hunting is all in a persons mind...promulgated by all the hype...

Re: 50-110 vs 50 Alaskan

OH YEAH...the ballistics of those long pointy 50 cal bullets, especially the 750 Amax are amazing...AND there are plenty of cases to play with if you want to futz around...I "Launch" those in my 510 Makatak in the 1500-2000fs range and they are like the Energizer Bunny...they keep going an...

Re: 50-110 vs 50 Alaskan

After a few email exchanges with Mic...and finding out the amount of metal work required because of the differences in the 336 vs 1895 receivers to even get a 450-70 to work, plus it being questionable about getting a 50 cal bullet to cycle into the chamber at the COL I want, AND being on the ragged...

Re: 50-110 vs 50 Alaskan

Thanks JFE...I'm WAY to cheap to "send out" for the most part, and I understand about the Marlin square threads. I can do what Mic does by chucking the receiver up in my lathe, and I can also fit the threads of the new barrel to the actual receiver threads and gain a little bit. The real t...

Re: 50-110 vs 50 Alaskan

You're right for the original 50-110/50AK leverguns. For all intents and purposes modern wise, the 50 AK is a short 5-110 even though there are some slight differences in case size at the base...50 AK is 0.548"-0.553" base OD depending on who/whete you get your specs and 50-110 is 0.0551 -...

Re: 50-110 vs 50 Alaskan

I need some help here also...I have a Marlin 336 switch barrel, 356 W, 444, 45-70(just got the barrel) and I want to do a 50 cal barrel... I can do all the work so I have many ways of doing the conversion and I have an email out to Mic to do his 2.73" Long action work. I was going to have the 4...

Re: BROWNING BLR BARREL REMOVAL

I did scan through that article, but I was looking specifically for barrel/removal etc., references...I will re-read it again, several times, to extract all the tasty stuff. :D Cleaned the 450M today and did the mag box. Just popped out the two roll pins and the block came out with a bit of jiggling...

Re: BROWNING BLR BARREL REMOVAL

Thanks Bruce...I understand and appreciate the information, I wasn't trying to come across all weird...I tend to be very direct which is definitely NOT politically correct and takes people aback without meaning any diss. I'm kinda like the "energizer bunny" when it comes to projects or int...

Re: BROWNING BLR BARREL REMOVAL

Roger that...setup an interference fit, heat one part, cool the other, stick'um together...quickly...been there, done that. Heat one side of a big piece of steel and squirt water on the other side and watch it bend around in a circle...totally neat way to bend RR track into a circle. Hahahahaha I su...

Re: BROWNING BLR BARREL REMOVAL

Thanks...I did a search and read the comments, but have read other comments saying it can be done and it isn't all that much of a problem EXCEPT the barrel is sealed to the lug and the lug is press fitted into the aluminum frame so you have to take care and support EVERYTHING from EVERY DIRECTION. I...

BROWNING BLR BARREL REMOVAL

I just picked up a Browning BLR 450 Marlin I'm very impressed with and while doing some load workup got to thinking about rebarreling... HOW IN THE HECK do you remove a barrel in the aluminum framed receiver without taking out the lug or bending the receiver at the same time?? I've been crawling the...

Re: Marlin 336 barrel shank dimensions

FWIW...I took my 336's barrel off and measured it directly... Shank OD 0.775" Minor OD 0.715" Shank length 0.650" w/o hood...0.0850" with hood. Barrel OD at chamber 0.925" Max cartridge length that will feed and extract a loaded cartridge without a lot of costly work, 2.69&q...
