Down in Uvalde
I took baked goods to the Sheriff’s Departments in Medina, Uvalde and Kinney Counties as well as Uvalde Police Department. The press were everywhere trying to stick a microphone in front of anyone who would talk. Like a circus of vultures. Remember that we have good folks trying to do a good job. Th...

Re: Lyman Cast Bullet Manual, 4th Ed. [2010]
Thank you!
I guess I am pushing these too hard for a SAA. I'm using 8.5 gr of Unique and seating the bullet deep to fit the FA 97 chambers.
I sure wish I could find my chronograph.

Lyman Cast Bullet Manual, 4th Ed. [2010]
On pg 124 of Colt's Single Action Army, by Dave Scoville, the author states that Lyman published loading data for the 270SAA bullet in their Lyman Cast Bullet Manual, 4th Ed. [2010] in the .45 Colt section. If anyone has a copy of this manual, would you please send me a photo of the entry for this b...

It is easy to focus on the folks who are trying to bring attention to themselves and think about how things are going to hell. But I gotta tell you, I saw some wonderful serious young people who have no time for such things. So this was a great affirmation that we still have a crop of great young pe...

Re: This dang Ruger cylinder is made of tough steel!
I believe that my problems with this gun are solved. 8.5 gr of Unique under the 255 gr Hornady swaged cowboy bullet won’t even lead. I fired about 60 rounds of various ammo through this bore yesterday and 5 of the last 6 fired went through the two inch hole in my flapper target at 25 yards. It doesn...

Re: Lightweight Commander type pistols
I've never owned anything but full sized 1911 style handguns, but I would like a smaller/lighter 1911 if I came across one reasonably priced. Lot of times I pack my compact 9mm due to it's light, small size; but I'd rather be packing a .45 instead. Going to a lightweight commander is a significant ...

Well, it is done and I sent the reamer back to 4D today. I think I will polish the chambers and throats a bit. Any tips on how to do that? I was thinking about using my dremel tool with a felt tip and some polishing compound.

His site contained a wealth of great information.
Looking at what I have right now, I am not convinced that I have a problem that needs to be solved. Now that the cylinder throats are opened up a bit, I think it will be fine as is.

Re: This dang Ruger cylinder is made of tough steel!
That’s pretty clean for a bore. This photo was taken after six rounds of that 270SAA bullet over 8.5 gr of Unique.
Before I reamed the throats it left quite a bit of debris toward the cylinder. So this is a major improvement.

This gun responded well to opening up the cylinder throats. All loads shot well today. 250 gr XTP groups were really impressive. The 270SAA shot better too. But the deep seated version did noticeably better.

Scott, is that a laser engraved 45 Colt Bisley cylinder? If so, I have the same and had Bob Munden bore it out many years ago and polish it. Yes, hard steel for sure, why the Ruger New Model Blackhawk is so strong an action. But all sorts of tolerance problems with them in 45 Colt. Undercut chamber...

I've seen the 444 in a 45-70 before and Dad had a collection of wonky brass he collected at the range where people had fired the wrong cartridge in a rifle. I was out at the ranch to shoot a Ruger Bisley large frame in .45 Colt. Its not the smoothest bore or the most accurate revolver I own, but it is very comfortable to shoot.
