Re: .44 Special Loads Over The Years

I use 6 gr of Unique under a 240 RNFP. Quite a comfortable load to shoot all day. But I would not drop this charge any. With the Keith bullet I step it up to 7.5 gr of Unique. Though 8 grains pops it up a bit. Not for extended use in a Charter Arms. Between these two loads I’m good for just about an...

Re: 44 Special.

I tried that 16.5 gr 2400 load today and I think it might be too much of a good thing. Scoville writes that it was too much for a couple of his sixguns. I went back and loaded the old Skeeter load after that. It shoots well in all of my.44 Special sixguns. Edited to say: I found a number of .44 Spec...

The two standard loads I use .. both with Lyman #429421 = 6.5 gr. Unique and 16.5 gr. 2400. These hit to the sights. I did not have to tweak the front sight in any way. The smartest thing I ever did was to buy 2,000 pieces of brass when Starline made the special run with the Shootists head stamp. I...

Like saddle makers, holster makers developed their unique style. The holsters that they developed often bear their names. A.W.Brill was an Austin holster maker and his holsters were very popular with central Texas lawmen in the 1920s. (In those days it was illegal for other folks to carry pistols in...

I also want to be careful about over stressing this very nice rifle that I as built on a 20 ga shotgun frame. It locks up good and tight but I don’t think it’s as robust as some other action types.

But, I can measure the weight of the charge to get a better idea of where it is. I’ll do that today.
